Random PHP error?

Ive been noticing error popping up, mostly from PM`s.

2: fsockopen(): php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known

Any idea what this means and how I can fix it?

Although PM`s do go through in the end, it is annoying.

Also, a moderator of mine is having his PM count go into the MINUS range.
His count was stuck at -2 for a while, i sent him 3 pm`s, it stayed at -2, once he deleted them it went to -5!
Any clue there too?

For the first try

Admin > Edit Features and Options > Layout and Options > Help     Disable hostname lookups?

For the second

The recount worked a charm ta.
The error is still there after disableing hostname lookups.

It seems to occor everytime a person replys to a PM.
Sending is fine, but replying will give this error, but the PM will still get to its destination.

The error is caused by an incorrect SMTP server setting in your Features and Options.

Cheers, all is sorted now.

Why does PM replys require SMTP details though?

[Unknown]

Because they've set in their profile they wish to get emails (SMTP) when you pm them.
