Header/Banner Issue
« on: March 30, 2008, 10:32:11 PM »
Can anyone help with my banner image. I can't find the right code to get rid of the default background and border around my banner. Here's the link to my forum. rljoneson.com/faf_forum I want it to be set at the forum width of 706px, which I DID apply to my index temp.

Here's my index temp code
Code: [Select]
<?php
// Version: 2.0 Beta 3 Public; index

/* This template is, perhaps, the most important template in the theme. It
contains the main template layer that displays the header and footer of
the forum, namely with main_above and main_below. It also contains the
menu sub template, which appropriately displays the menu; the init sub
template, which is there to set the theme up; (init can be missing.) and
the linktree sub template, which sorts out the link tree.

The init sub template should load any data and set any hardcoded options.

The main_above sub template is what is shown above the main content, and
should contain anything that should be shown up there.

The main_below sub template, conversely, is shown after the main content.
It should probably contain the copyright statement and some other things.

The linktree sub template should display the link tree, using the data
in the $context['linktree'] variable.

The menu sub template should display all the relevant buttons the user
wants and or needs.

For more information on the templating system, please see the site at:

Try removing the class="catbg". Replace this line
Code: [Select]
<td class="catbg" height="32">';
with this one.
Code: [Select]
<td height="32">';

thanks Johny! that got rid of the padding issue, but the border/(bacground?) is still there. mind taking a look at the live site vs. my code again to fix that problem??

RL Joneson, if you have one simple image, go to

Admin->Config->Current Theme->Theme Options and Preferences->Logo image URL

and input the location in the space provided

Very simple for simple image

Good luck

It looks normal to me. What background do you want to get rid of?

Im using Firefox and it's showing what looks like a 1px border on the left and top. do you see it? I have my banner designed so it looks like it has rounded corners. You aren't supposed to see the white line on the top, or the left. I searched my code and all of my borders are on 0. i think?? Do you know how to fix this?

Hi RL Joneson,

I think it's the padding on this element which is giving the border effect.

Code: [Select]
/* This is used on tables that should just have a border around them. */
.tborder
{
padding: 1px;
border: 1px solid #696969;
background-color: #FFFFFF;
}

You could try changing it but it'll probably effect a lot of other table borders too. So you might need to create a special class to apply just to the header. Or perhaps even do away with the table altogether for the header and place it in a division.

I find Firebug is a great add-on for Firefox for these sorts of problems. It lets you click on an element then you can toggle each CSS selector on and off and see the effect instantly.

Good luck,
Nigel

I just removed the border from all of the tables. Looks good. thanks! In the future, as you had mentioned removing the header from the table and creating in its own div, could you point me to any info on how to do this? Thanks!

Instead of using
Code: [Select]
<table cellpadding="x" border="0" ..>
  <tr>
    <td>
      <img src= .. your header logo path/url here>
    </td>
  </tr>
</table>

just use
Code: [Select]
<div style="...>
  <img src=...your logo path/url here>
</div>
