The *NEW* SMF 2.X Default Theme
« on: April 01, 2008, 05:37:19 AM »
Will the overall theme change much for 2.X (code not html)

Basically, will mod authors need to remake mods / Theme authors need to remake themes again once the next Ver 2 release comes out with the new (semantic) theme?

just wondering if i should wait until the new default theme is released before worrying about themes and changes

Yes there are going to be a lot of changes between the themes. Though you will still be able to use table themes.

It really depends on how many files you have as part of your theme. For my site I just had to modify index.template.php. So making the changes for SMF 2.0 Beta 3 was easy and I don't mind having to do it again. If you have a lot of changes you'd probably be better of waiting until the semantic theme coding is put in place.

I believe Grudge said in the public annoncement all theme changes will be done in SMF2.0 beta4. And of course with betas there are no time lines. :P
