Help replacing some code in MessageIndex.template.php

Hello,

I am unfortunately having trouble installing a mod manually. I need to replace some code in my MessageIndex.template.php but if I try to do it manually I always get an error message. Obviously I keep on doing something wrong.

Unfortunately there seems to be a bug in my messageindex.php source file after I made the necessary changes manually.

It says
