Please help!! totally clueless on how to upgrade to smf 1.0 gold!

Please help, im totally new to this can sum1 give me a step by step instruction on how to upgrade?

what would i have to do to upgrade i..e do i go into admin section  and then what do i select?

also will there be new features, a new look etc?
