Hey there everyone. I am trying to upgrade my forum from SMF 1.1.5 to SMF 2.0 Beta 3 Public, however I get the following error message:

QuoteThe upgrader found some old or outdated files.

Please make certain you uploaded the new versions of all the files included in the package.

What is the problem and how can it be fixed? I need the forum up and running as soon as possible.

Thanks everyone.

you need to make sure to upload all of the files from the upgrade package before attempting to run upgrade.php

This will overwrite ALL of your SMF source and default theme files. (thus uninstalling all mods)

I have uploaded every single file that is given in the file (I initially downloaded the 'Full Install' .zip file) two times already but still no luck. Is that the right file to download from SMF?

What else could it possibly be?

did the files successfully overwrite?

(and you DO NOT want to overwrite Settings.php)

Yes, each and every file did overwrite successfully, both times that I tried.

I am unsure whether settings.php was overwritten... Is there a settings.php file in the upgrade .zip file that I downloaded from SMF?

1- don't bump. You only posted 5 hours apart...   and between midnight and 5am, where I am.
2- if you used the UPGRADE package, then no, there is no settings.php in that archive.

I would suggest that the facts indicate a different story.... something is not getting copied or over-written. You verified that every file in the root and Sources directory have a new date-stamp and every file in every sub-directory of Themes also do?

No-one can help? :(

Time is money.

You are a web hosting service. You should have a backup you can restore. Then try the upgrade on a test copy of your forum until you get the issue figured out.

Anyway I'm willing to bet that some of the 2.0 files didn't get uploaded.

I am quite certain that each file has a new date-stamp on it (checked via my FTP client).

rsw686, I have overwritten each and every file, no errors occurred on my FTP client log and there was nowhere which stated particular files were unable to be uploaded/overwritten.

I have attached the upgrade.php file metallica48423.

Do you recommend I delete all the files and folders and upload the files from the SMF 2.0 FULL installation .zip file?

Try this (the 2.0 package has not yet been regenerated)

My forum works now! Awesome! :D

Thanks ever so much metallica48423, it is very much appreciated. What was the initial problem? How come my forum wasn't upgrading? I don't understand what you mean by 'the 2.0 package has not yet been regenerated'...

the file must be updated . . .  I am having the same error as well.

BTW, I am getting an error if I have updated something from Post and Topics ---> "Post Settings". It says that I have a missing table so it can't be updated. I forgot to copy a preview.

Anyone is having the same problem? ;)

not yet... I will try it once I reached home :)

ORGANPORTAL

Same problem here. BUT the upgrade files (as attached by your reply) does not do the job here. Still the same error ´old files´

metallica48423

if you have language files other than english, including english-utf8, delete them first.  They won't work with 2.0 anyways, but since they're still technically outdated, they'll hold an upgrade from completing (legitimately!)

another problem:

after upgrade successfully... all my queries from min 12 went up high as much as 115 queries each pageload. :(

metallica48423

uhm... I actually suspect that is... not right... SMF 2.0 definitely... does not use 115 queries per page load... :S

can you do a detailed version check rom the admin CP, clear the cache from forum maintenance, and then check again?

I too am experiencing a ton of slowness in 2.0 Beta 3. Pages take anywhere from 20-80 seconds to be generated at times, and I still have yet to find a fix. My host says SQL is operating fine, and most things on status.php check out.

thread cache is a little low but everything else seems fine. my host said the large memory usage isn't a problem, and i believe it since this only started happening once i upgraded to 2.0 b3.

this is definately some sort of query-related problem, and doesn't occurr but once. when i view my index, it might take 50 seconds to generate the first time, but then 0 the next. then i move on to profile, and same ordeal. 50 first time, 0 next. turning on higher caching levels helps a lot, but still doesn't explain what's stalling the queries. my query NUMBERS have never been crazy.. usually 8-10, but the time is ridiculous.

metallica48423

the loads the server is under might cause a bottleneck.  generally loads over 2 start generating slower load times but the stuff will still load

You also have several processes using decent amounts of CPU -- this might be another contributor

have you looked at it right when the slowdown happened?  I notice theres no swap usage -- while high amounts of swap will cause bottlenecks, some swapping is ideal -- do they have the server setup to do this?  High memory usage in a unix OS is normal, as it optimizes usage of the memory rather than waiting for it to be available.

Would you like me to move this to the server configuration and performance board?

well, while i would tend to agree if it just started happening, it was definately caused by 2.0 beta 3. i had zero slowdown and the forum was awesome prior to upgrading.

i have looked at the status during a long generation time, but didn't see much of a difference from normal. simply told me how many queries were currently being executed. other stats were relatively the same.

reanimationxp

even more odd, i'm using ssi to pull info for our frontpage at http://www.bsuakpsi.org, and it never has any sort of long generation time. always instantaneous. makes me think it's definately some piece of code or query, one that's not executed unless pulling an actual forum page. the forum index and the profile page are the main culprits.

You can turn on debugging and see what queries are being done and how long they take. Check out this topic for information on how to enable this.

If you use the Settings.php method, make sure to disable once you are done.

Ah, looks like it is CM-only.

Some selected quotes:

So.... I loaded up SMF...

http://localhost/smf/index.php?action=viewquery;sa=hide

(change as needed of course)

That's seen if you have it set to debug. Open Settings.php and add this line:

$db_show_debug = true;

(I put it under the last db error.)

For a more secure debugging experience (non-admins can't see the debug link this way):

Quote from: Nao 尚
Just add $db_show_debug to the globals list in smf_main() (in index.php) and add this after "loadPermissions()":

if (
$user_info['is_admin'])

$db_show_debug true;

If $user_info isn't in the globals list, just add it.
Been doing this for some time and it works fine.

funny enough, i was just showing a friend this problem and linked to this thread after not having viewed it for a couple days, and the smf.org site seems to have the same problem.

Page created in 24.091 seconds with 28 queries.

and this is on THIS forum! browsing this forum and my own before i never saw anything like that prior to 2.0.. something is very wrong here.

slackerpunk

@reanimationxp

I tried browsing http://www.bsuakpsi.org/forum/ and it seems to be loading up fine is this the site you are having problems with?

Page created in 0.086 seconds with 9 queries.

reanimationxp

as i said, it doesn't occur consistantly nor on all pages. the index does it on the first load at times, and the profile page is the main culprit. unsure if it matters or not whether you're a registered member, but i want to say whenever i access it as a guest, i havn't seen the problem.

reanimationxp

for example, i just was browsing the forum for a few minutes with no problems, but upon deleting a few users and smf loading the forum index, here's how long it took. IE7 says 'Done.' in the status bar but continues loading for almost a minute.

Page created in 47.085 seconds with 13 queries.

slackerpunk

reanimationxp

custom fields, yes.. but not a ton. no mods installed.

slackerpunk

can you try disabling custom fields and see if its still slow

Jason_UK

"Page created in 0.376 seconds with 16 queries." @ http://www.bsuakpsi.org/forum/ [nofollow]

Seems fine to me.

Rumbaar

Well I just hit the forum http://www.bsuakpsi.org/forum/ and on first like had .13 seconds load time and working through the forum was getting around the same.  Hit your main site and it loaded instantaneously.  With 7-14 queries.

PS: I wish people would create their own threads, this one is a mess of people and can be very hard for us to follow who and what is the issue for all people.

Since this is all jumbled, I am locking.

If you have an issue, create your own new topic. Adding onto someone else's topic just makes it much much harder to provide support and makes it easier for your issue to be missed.
