Wat is er zo goed aan smf2?

Al zo vanaf oktober is het bekend dat smf 2 zou komen. Maar nog steeds is er geen goede versie verschenen die we voor onze fora kunnen gebruiken. Al een tijdje beloof ik de leden van mijn forum een nieuwe layout en een aantal modificaties, maar ik durf er eigenlijk nog niet aan te beginnen doordat ik niet weet wat er me met smf 2 te wachten staat.

Mijn vraag dus...
Als ik nu m'n hele forum verbouw, wat kan ik dan verwachten als ik smf 2 wil installeren? Niet alle mods zullen met smf 2 werken, ook niet alle thema's. Ben ik dan nog een half jaar bezig om smf 2 goed geinstalleerd te krijgen? En wat schiet ik ermee op?

SMF 2.0 is nog steeds niet uit bètafase, dus ik kan je ook geen definitief antwoord geven. Als je afhankelijk bent van veel mods, wacht dan tot de final release, want dan zullen de meeste mods pas bijgewerkt zijn.

    * File based caching for a performance increase on all forums regardless of whether an accelerator is installed.
    * Mail queuing system to stagger the sending of emails to improve performance on large forums.
    * Advanced signature settings to allow the administrator of a forum to more tightly control the contents of users signatures.
    * Personal messaging improvements including ability to automatically sort incoming messages and a variety of display options.
    * Improved upgrade script with better timeout protection and simpler user interface.
    * Custom profile fields to enable administrators to add additional member fields from the administration center.
    * User configurable posts and topics per page; an improved calendar interface.
    * Option to allow guests to vote in polls.

Natuurlijk, al zal dat wel een grote update zijn, waarbij bestaande modificaties en thema's niet zonder aanpassing meegenomen kunnen worden.
