Hey guys.
Fistly, sorry if this is in the wrong section, I wasn't sure where to put it.

Ok, so currently, I have SMF 1.1.4, and downloaded 2.0 Beta 3.1 the other day, and I love the Beta 3.1.  But I don't want to loose all my posts from 1.1.4.
So, can I convert my 1.1.4 to the 2.0 Beta 3.1?
If so, how do I do it?  Do I just download the "large upgrade"?  Or, do I have to first convert to 1.1.5?

Thanks,
Matt

Upgrading will retain all your members, posts, topics, stats etc.
But you will lose any mods which are installed.

You will require the large upgrade.

Make sure you backup both your files and your database before undertaking to upgrade.

Ok, I backuped everything I could.  Including everything in my CPanel, and then from the Admin section, I did all of that too.

Approximately, how long would this take?

Thanks again,
Matt

Ok guys, I have another problem.  Seems like I always do.

So, I uploaded everything, and overwrote everything.  I try to use the forums, but this shows up:
PHP Error Message

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 16777216 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 16 bytes)
in /****/********/public_html/Forum2/Sources/Subs-Db-mysql.php on line 654

I tried to uploade that specific file again, but nothing happens.
So, I look at that file on line 654, and this is what it shows:
foreach (debug_backtrace() as $step)

I also deleted lots of stuff from my public_html, so that there would be more space, but that didn't help.

So, what do I do?
Thanks

Sorry for bumping within 24 hours, but I would really like to get my forum running again.  My members are anxious to get back to posting and stuff.

Its not an error in the file.
But a lack of memory available.

I'm not sure how to resolve it. Hopefully someelse who posts soon will.

iownrevo33

Lack of memory?

I have tons of memory left in my PublicHtml thing.
could the data base be out of memory?

karlbenson

Its memory for PHP.
Not space.

Thats whats its telling you. Its using x amount. But when it asked for more.  It was denied.

your host will need to increase the php_memory_limit setting in php.  its a host restriction that is causing this.

you should be able to restore your backup to get yourself running on 1.1.4 again for the time being :)

feel free to reply to this if you still have problems after contacting your host.  if they won't up the limit on a temporary basis to allow you to perform the upgrade, then i must reccommend finding a new host.

Well, right now I'm using a free host, and if I do have to move, I want to keep it free.

But see, I had both my regular forum, the 1.1.4 running, then I added the Beta 3 one, and both worked.  Then I deleted the Beta 3 unused one, to make room for the upgrade.  So, I would think there would be lots of room, seeing as I had both at once.

Well, I'm contacting them now about the php_memory_limit.  Hopefully they give me some more.  Approximately, incase they ask, how much would I need?  And you said it only has to be temporary?

One more thing.  Don't you have to go the Admin section of your forum to "bring" back the old one?

theres no real guidelines, and i'm not positive by how much, but it is just exceeding that limit.

memory is not the same as disk space.  memory is the amount of ram that is allocated to a process, in this case, php

Ok, so I have contacted them, but I have to wait for them to get back.
On the site I'm using, I read that I only have 16M of ram.  But, then on my same account, I created another site, and it had 32M of ram.  So, I don't think it will be problem.

Were you able to fix this issue via your host?

When you say you had 16M and 32M on another site, how are you obtaining this information?  Also are you sure both the sites are on the same host?
