I'm using SMF 2 and the default theme and I'd like to tailor the standard Message Icons a user gets to choose from to the theme of my forum.

I believe I do this one by one by:

  • Signing on with my admin User ID
  • Going Admin > Forum > Smiley's & Message Icons > Edit Message Icons > Modify the Message Icon of my choice.
  • Changing the gif filename to my new gif, and changing the description and the order
Looks easy.

Before I start:

  • Where are those gif files saved?
  • What size should the gif files I assume all be?
  • Can anyone recommend somwhere on the web can I go to get some more tailored to my forum on cheese (or do I have to make my own)?

Thanks!

JimM

Don't forget to check the box, Enable customized message icons.

The files are in Themes/default/images/post.  Use your own judgement on the size.

Thanks JimD, just found that tick box under Admin > Forum > Smiley's & Message Icons > Settings page.

I checked and SMF's ones appear to be 15 x 15 pixels, so I'll resize my replacements to the same.

Just have to now find a good choice or pre-built Icons!

You may be successful finding some by googling but it will probably end up being something you will have to create yourself.  Good luck.
