Surround Text function

I am trying to use the Surround Text Function that is in this forum. I am taking the script file, saving it unchanged on my server. In my message window, I then have the buttons. They work great for FireFox. But in I.E. it does not surround the text, it just puts the text to insert at the end of the forum box. Yet, this site here works just fine with I.E. with respect to the buttons.

Does anybody have any idea what would be causing conflicts? As I am literally just taking the code directly (no worries, this is not for anything public actually either, or profit, etc).
