mambo or mkportal?

There are two main things i want to offer my members.  Games and blogs.  I know mambo has a component for games that you can add, which is quite nice.  and there is a "blog" thing in it but it seems to be only for news.  is there a mambo component or module that can do member blogging?

and mkportal has blogs. which is great. but from my research there is no real way to intergrate a game setup into the site. (one that comes with games, that is)

So, I ask.  Which can do both, or can both do both?  They both seem nice.  Mambo is hard to handle at first but can be played with more.

Those are really the two big fetures that i'm looking for.

I'd recommend trying/testing both, but I wouldn't recommend actually concurrently using both.

I would go with MK Portal its easy and flexable, and from the MK Portal homepage you can download and istall a program for games/webmail.  I noticed your post befor this one about webmail so happy hunting.

I've installed both mambo and mkportal and downloaded almost all of the best modules available for both.....i'd say i'll go for mkportal. easy admin cp and easy to add navbar links or portal menu. besides mkportal got all the features that i want...just need a little tweaking. see below to see my sites underconstruction. not yet done though as i'm still busy adding more features to it. :D

here's my SMF-MKPORTAL SITE!

let me know what u think.

honestly, I like Mambo much more...  it has more functionality and more add-ons for customizing your site than MKportal does.

There are quite a few games already ported and designed for mambo, and for member blogging, there's a component call Mamblog.

I chose Mambo because of their templating and components.  If you're looking for games, they have a component that has about 30+ with member high score tracking.

^^ SMF provides that too. I prefer the SMF arcade.

I agree with [Unknown].

Download and test as many options as you can before committing your site and users to something that may not be right for your site.

aye, that's what I'm, doing. MKportal is nice with all it's fetures... but it feels like it's for dummies, with not a whole lot of flexibility, as far as look and feel goes.

Mambo is wonderful. The only real tiff I have with it is the blog component... it's just... well not very good. Otherwise, mambo is great, because it is more playful on how it looks.

So if anyone knows of alternative blog options for mambo, do speak up.  I'm almost going to go ahead and use MKportal, but i'm giving post nuke a shot first, before i go with it.

Yes, the built in feature is rather limited/yucky...

however, Mambo has an alternative blog component called mamblog, which is pretty nice

yeah, that's what i was talking about. mamblog, itself, isn't very good. It doesn't feel much like a blog at all, and doesn't do returns correctly, which means poetry is out of the question for users.

use one of the alternative editors!   FCKeditor or HTMLArea3 or TinyMCE

If I were you I would install blogging software separate from the rest of your site, such as nucleus, b2, etc., and just link to it from your portal.

meester fox

Well, I thought of doing that. but I'd have to link the users to it somehow. besides, I want it to feel like one site, not two different ones.
