Setting membergroup by XML or CSV feed

Greetings!

I am looking to a way to make membergroup assignments automatically update based on a feed.

Here are the 2 feeds that I will be using:

XML Feed [nofollow]
CSV Feed [nofollow]

I would like to set the membergroups accordingly, but only the main membergroup.  There are other membergroups on the board that are more of an "additive" membergroup that I don't want this code to mess with.  (Like for instance, 1 "additive" membergroup grants users the permissions necessary to make news posts.)

If this is possible, then I would also like to have the code email me with errors.  Let's say it finds a user named "John" in the feed, but can't find a corresponding user on the forums named "John."

(To Clarify, looking at one of the first entries in the XML feed, you see "Ahari" who is a "Raider".  Those are the names / ranks I want to reference from the feeds.)

Ok, I would like to put some serious thought into this mod.  If setting by XML feed is too difficult, then what about reading another database to make the changes accordingly?  I have one database that uses the .xml feed to put the entries in the database, so I think it would be as easy as watching for changes and setting the new group accordingly - but I could be wrong.

Anyone interested in helping?
