all i need to do in PHPBB3 is use authciation in email settings ( email works )

i notice in this forum software you can change it to smtp but there is no authictiation and this is the problem for most boards that are out there cause php mail wont work cause people have spammed with it so now adays people use smtp and there is a authciation with it from most providers

can there be please be a update for this or is there a fix so i can use this board ..

thank-you

SMTP settings              Use SMTP server for e-mail:

Select "Yes" if you want or have to send e-mail via a named server instead of the local mail function.  Yes No SMTP server address:  SMTP server port:

Authentication method for SMTP:plain <--- phpbb3 has this / where smf does not !

Only used if a username/password is set, ask your provider if you are unsure which method to use.

Only enter a username if your SMTP server requires it.  SMTP password:
Only enter a password if your SMTP server requires it.

(((( can this be added or something can be done so we can have it working )))

thank-you

I know my host uses/requires authentication for mail sending (client side) and I'm able to easily use my SMTP account without any issue or modifications.

My webmaster account is the SMTP one and all details in SMTP are correct, no other issues.  Not sure what the issue is though.

cant send users a confirmation email ..

I believe plain is what SMF uses by default (when using SMTP method)? What other choices does phpbb provide apart from plain?

when i went into the configuration i set it for smtp

smtp=server
smtp=user name
smtp=password

when trying to send email it wont ...

using phpbb3 and it sends email on confiramtion right now on same server as smf

using smf and it doesnt work nor will it send to tell the user about confirmation

so what is wrong here ...

am i missing something

i even have it set up in php_ini and all over

everything is set up properly

caue all my SMTP settings is 100% correct i know that for sure  ;)

Does your smtp=user name = "webmaster" e-mail in server settings?

Just a quick THANK YOU for pointing out the Webmaster Email Address idea.  I have been having problems with the mail server on our web since I've uploaded the Beta version, and couldn't figure it out.  Thought it was a host issue, but they claimed it was an issue on my end.  Saw this tonight, and gave it a try.  BINGO.  Thanks again!  I'm an idiot............

Rumbaar

Yes it can be an under looked issue, that doesn't seem to have consistent issues.  But works for some, glad it worked for you :)
