Bu logged off when surfing, the session is broken? How exactly long does it take?

Did you alter the session timeout amount? Did you install any modifications? Any errors in the error log?

about 10-20 mins at a time..

No, I havnt altered the session timeout amount and neither the modifications which I have installed have gave me any type of errors yet. Yep there are errors in error log but its all for the board index files... I think that appearance maybe normal... Althought i can provide you the needful. Thanks

Sorry this is 1.1.5 bug kindly move it there, I think this happened when i had restored my table which is smf_settings . Some other bugs also started acting on like the popup window while a user gets the pm. If you agree to view the pm by pressing "ok" it doesnt take the user there.

Also some other error that if you are viewing the post and click on the banner to go onto the home page it messes things up, for example:-

if i am on the post:- http://yoursite.com/index.php/topic,1170.0.html

and then i click on the banner then it takes me to

http://yoursite.com/index.php/index.php

instead of just http://yoursite.com/index.php

I think you might have got the idea....

This all errors have most probably come up when smf_settings was restored from the old database. Please help me out soon. These errors are making the site non-user friendly.

Thanks alot....!!!!!!

Would you do anything (not foolish things) to resolve your issue?  It won't harm you or your forum.

@ JonnyB
Tried repair_settings.php but i dunno what is the result of it, I have set the cookies to smfcookie11.

@ccbtimewiz
I have done that but i will know the result about it if i get logged off.

What are your session settings in there (admin > server settings > feature configuration)?

Can you please link to the board in question?

Also please clarify on the "banner" thing -- which banner?  Please be as detailed as possible so that I can recreate the issue

I'm assuming they are indeed selecting the 'forever' login option and not one of the time limited options?

Seconds before an unused session timeout - 2880

That issue is solved, I dont exactly know it but i think it happens when one of the mod is installed.

No,forever is not selected, How shall i make it default that they select forever ? They choose the 60 minutes time option.

@ JonnyB
That actually helped me out with some other problem ;) but yet that method didnt help.

@ccbtimewiz
I did enable it but yet it happens.

Anything else that can help ?

Thank you all.

If they choose 60 minutes and they get logged off after an hour then it is working exactly as expected.

IIRC, forever is the default.  meaning they would have to be changing it themselves.

But cant it be like it is ticked there and hence the user wont get logged off. There might be some setting as such ? As a user is most likely to stay more than 1 hr and if not then atleast the staff members of the site would.

Any internal settings i can do ?

Thank you.

metallica48423

well, you could always remove the option from the template so they COULDNT select the option to log off after so long.

Like I said, they are physically themselves choosing the session length -- if they would choose the forever option, it would keep them logged in until they click logoff.

The option sets an expiry time on the cookie that is set on the computer.  Once the cookie expires it can't be used, hence ending the session -- that is how cookies work.

I guess everything is all working proper. I was comparing two databases and found that the global cookie entry wasnt present. I just inserted the entry in the database and everything is normal.

Thank you for the support.
