Primary and Secondary groups

I hope this is the correct place to ask this.  Here's my scenario:

I have several groups based on post count, and boards that can only be viewed people that have enough posts to be in said post-count-based groups.

So for instance, Tester has posted 100 times, so he's in the Limpet group.  Now that he's in the Limpet group, he can see the Seasnail's Grotto board, which is specifically set up to only be seen by those of the Limpet group and all groups dedicated to post counts higher than that.

Now, I've also got some requestable groups set up.  One group, called Revolutionaries, has access to see the Revolution Underground board.

Let's say Tester requests and is able to join the Revolutionaries group.  This is his new primary group instead of the post-count-based Limpet group.  Is he still part of the Limpet group even though he has a specifically-assigned Primary group?  Will he still have the ability to see the Seasnail's Grotto if he retains Limpet group membership as a secondary membergroup?

I hope this all isn't too confusing ... I've been trying to assign members to a primary membergroup and still allow them to see the post-count-based boards, but I have met with utter failure thus far.

Yes, he will. Permissions are like transparent layers, one laid on top of another. If something is not allowed on one permission layer, yet allowed on another, the allow will prevail. But a deny will prevail above an allow.

Somebody allowed to view a certain forum will retain that permission no matter how many other groups they have. The only way they wouldn't have it is if some group specifically denied access to that board (through local permissions).

Does that make sense and answer your questions?

In short, permissions are granted until they are denied or never given. Right Eliana?

That does make sense, thank you.

Now, I'm trying to figure out how to make Tester be able to see all the boards viewable by Regular Members when his primary membergroup is set to "Revolutionaries."

Is there a setting somewhere in the group settings to let that group see all the boards from another group?  I already have it set to inherit permissions from Regular Members, but I don't think that's quite what that means.

I just don't want to have to add every single new normal board I create to the Revolutionaries memergroup's list of viewable boards.

Clarification:  Currently, when Tester's primary membergroup is set to Revolutionaries, he can only see the boards specifically set to be viewable by the Revolutionaries group and his Rank-By-Post-Count group.

All the normal boards with no special permissions set are not showing up.

Are the other boards set to allow Regular Members? If not, he won't be able to access them.

The normal boards are set to allow Regular Members, but he still can't see them when Revolutionaries is his primary group.

keep in mind that post groups are NEVER primary.

if a user does not have a primary group they get the board access for a REGULAR MEMBER. - - regardless of their post group
