Like the subject line said, I'm looking ot remove the person's member group title from under their name.
I know you can hide their post group in the Theme Settings area, but I want to get rid of the part that says "Admin", "Global Moderator", etc, because I'm using a graphic that says what they are instead of the stars, and it kind of looks a little dumb when it says it twice IMO.

This would interest me too because, on one of my Forums I'd like members with slightly different access permissions (ie they're actually in different membergroups) to "appear" as if they're in the same membergroup.  I could do that by using the one graphic for several groups.

Weird, I was thinking the same thing a few hours ago.  If you have images to Show "Ranks or Groups" why would you need the title also?

I was thinking I saw something where you could turn these off? Maybe not, so I was just going to rip it from the templates. :)

Ok, I actually figured it out accidentally, while I was doing another mod just now.

If you go into your 'display.template.php' file, look for this block of code:

// Show the member's primary group (like 'Administrator') if they have one.
if (isset($message['member']['group']) && $message['member']['group'] != '')
echo '
', $message['member']['group'], '<br />';

All you have to do to have the board ignore these lines, is add two forward slashes in front of each line, so it looks like this

// Show the member's primary group (like 'Administrator') if they have one.
//if (isset($message['member']['group']) && $message['member']['group'] != '')
// echo '
// ', $message['member']['group'], '<br />';

Or just use additional groups...

Ahh.. but what happens if I do this after the fact?  In other words, how do I manually put a person in a different group?  I understand how to go into the member's profile and modify his Primary Membergroup (Account Related Settings), but I'm trying to delete the Newbie group - or at least move him out of it.

When I go to Edit Membergroups and select Newbie, I see a list of six users.  I want to move all of them out of the Newbie membergroup (I don't want to use post count groups at all).

It appears the functionality I want is supposed to be there, but I cannot check any of these users and the Remove from Group button does not seem to work.  Nothing happens.  There doesn't appear to be a way to remove someone from a group.

What do I do?  (I searched on Remove from Group and didn't find anything)

You can not remove anyone from the base post group.  However in the current themes settings you can say not to display the post group.  Then you change the member group name from Newbie to "" (blank)

Wow.  Thanks for the near-instant response.  Much appreciated.

it's quite funny. in the theme options i've disabled post group titles for grouped members. but if i just remove the title of a custom group (for example global mod), then the post group title appears there although i've disabled it.

how do i fix that?

i want
a) post based titles for normal members
b) no titles at all for grouped members, because i have badegs that say "moderator" anyway.

thanks for the help in advance
