Queryless URLs

I've searched for this and haven't come across anything conclusive - I ran repair_settings.php and it had Queryless URLs: listed. Off being recommended.

I don't have Apache so can I not use it? And my main question - what ARE Queryless URLs? How would they benefit me?

Basically it takes away the "index.php?action=blah;this=that;sa=fghfghfgh;me=me;" bit that makes the urls for your website really long, it changes them into something like "/index.php/blah/this/", so that they look better and they are easier for search engines to index.

I don't believe that the SMF Queryless URLs will work unless you have apache, but somebody could correct me on this.

Indeed, not without apache.

Search engine friendly urls while a popular seo trick, it is heavily argued as to whether there is actually any benefit of using them these days as search engines can deal with dynamic urls fine these days.
