Converting from 1x to 2x with lots of mods and members

Currently I have a modded 1x board and I'd like to make the move over to the 2x board.

I have 300 or so members and of course would like to move them over as well. I have a lot of mods on my 1x board and would like to make sure they all work before committing to the move. Whats the best way to do this?

I'd hate to move all my members over by doing an update, install mods and find out that the ones I just can't live without do not work as of yet and then have new posts on a new forum that i'd rather leave on the old forum. As well I'd hate to start installing  mods on 2x then bring over my members and have all the database work I just did on 2x over written.

Any suggestions or is it pretty much a look at your mods and make a list first and if you can't live without some don't move?

I'm sure others have already done this and I'm just curious to see what they did.

You'll lose all mods installed.

So make a list of those installed, and check in the mod site whether they currently support 2.x

Note, unlike going from smf 1.1.4 to 1.1.5
Going from smf 2.0 beta 3 to beta 4 will require replacing all the files again. (so you would have to reinstall the mods again [providing they are compatible]. And you'd have to do that for every new smf version until it goes Final).

Ok, so it would almost appear to wait until it goes final then make the move. As well I'd almost bet authors are waiting until it goes final as well so they don't have to redo their mods over and over.

Thanks Karl, I never thought about it that way.

When will it go final as I'm thinking of upgrading as well.

Is there a way to test it with 2 different databases? I don't want to upgrade yet but want to see how it converts my forum messages and users.

is there a way to do this?

Thanks
