No, no system has been set up that includes sports betting.  Interesting idea.

So, games and odds would be setup by the administrator?  And then maybe for score reporting, you can set up a system where users submit the score and if xxx people agree on a score it goes through?  (Of course, moderators and admins could get multiple votes).

I'd like to see this, but without the cash part... a prediction score system just for the fun of it.

Actually there is a way to do it, we have do use the bridge with mambo and them use the joomleague.de component to do it!

This is a GREAT idea and no one on the internet is doing a mod like this.  A virtual cash mod + betting.  A lottery or bingo mod?  A mod to predict scores on sporting events...These are all great mods that would benefit literally thousands of sports forums out there.  Is anybody working on anything like this?

The SMF shop mod looks perfect but it seems to have been abandoned.  This was a great start.  SMF is great but it lacks an interactive element to it - a currency, a buy and trading system, a gaming element to the site that gives some sort of competitive edge.  Something that would make people post more and come back to the site every day.

Even a collecting card game or top trumps style game.  Create a need for people to log on to the site everyday like farmville and other such games.

There really is a HUGE market out there for a coder to create something like this.

History has disagreed with you. If there were a huge market, more than half a dozen mods - total - would have been produced inside the last decade (which is how long SMF has been out in total) and there would be a lot more clamouring to request it. It's barely requested once a month at present.

I know what you are saying, at it makes sense that people would be requesting it if they wanted it.

I think it's a case of not being able to put a want into words that has prevented this from working.  I am a member of a number of soccer forums and I know that the most used part of the sites are always where you predict the outcome of a game or bet on a dead pool.

The gaming side of Facebook has proved how popular interactive games can be.  Creating a game where the forum uses have to come online every day, create more posts or reply to more threads....it's a blatant oppertunity just sitting there.

Personally, if it was me, the 1st thing I would do would be to create a virtual online currency.  The more time they spend online, the more they post, the more threads they start...all this pays virtual money.  Once you have the money system in place, you could create a framework so other developers could create games on top of it.

I truly wish I didn't waste the last 2 years learning c# as I would be all over this idea.

The virtual currency part is easy. Being able to do something with that virtual currency is a very different story.

Why not someone create a betting and lottery mod that works with the shop mod? It works fine in 2.0.4, plus the code is open source.

Because not everyone wants to add a shop mod, and I guarantee you that it will generate many support requests because no matter how the author makes it, a lot of people will always want something else.

That makes sense. So if I want the lottery and betting mod to work with SMF Shop, I'd have to make a separate request, right?
