In phpBB it was easy to set the moderator settings on a board so that only moderators of that board could see it or post to it. How do you do it with SM Boards ?

I have a user I made a moderator for a board but they can not see it so obviously they can not post to it either. But they are able to see other boards that I don't want them to.

I seems way to complicated setting permissions.

Any help please.

Thanks

Are you sure the moderator cant see the board? They should be able to.

Or you could make a Moderators membergroup and add them to that (Thats how I do it) and then allow them access to the board.
Admin -> Manage Boards -> Modify (On whatever hidden board it is) and then tick the box next to the Moderators membergroup.

Or do I understand wrong?

The problem with this approach is I would need to create a moderator group for each individual client who has a board and then add them to the group and then modify the board for this group only. If I have a 1,000 clients that would be a 1,000 groups. Way to much work required By adding them to the moderator field they should have full access immediately.

The problem as I see it is the way SM approaches permissions instead of being able to deal with each user separately it forces all users to join a group - we should have the ability to go to a users account and assign them as a moderator or full user etc..., for particular boards, grouping is nice but for me the benefit of group is to assign similar users together for emailing purposes or opening up specific boards to only a particular group.

Right now I can't assign a permission to users themselfs, if I understand permissions within SM correctly.

I export my users from phpBB to SMF.
All passwords was transfered ok, but...
I've got the same problems - I'd like to set 3 moderators for all my forums.
Could you tell me step-by-step info how to do this ?

How to change status of user to moderator ?

Thank you for answer

if they are listed as a moderator in admin -> Edit Boards they should be able to view it.

But when I export users from phpBB to SMF only admin rights was transfered. My users with moderators rights was was not created on SMF (after export service moderators looks like users without rights to moderate).

I can't undrstand which way can I set this rights manually :-(

Could you explain ? thanks in advance...

Are you sure they arent moderators in there own board, there not classed as a group its more just an extended rights thing in the board they moderate but its

Admin -> Manage Boards -> Modify -> Moderators  (You need to enter there username)

But it wont show them as mods until they are in there board.

How do I add a member to the Global Moderators group? I've been round and round the Admin section and just can't find it.

thanks, Dave

OK... found it.

If you're having the same problem, go into the member's Profile, from the left hand menu choose Account Related Settings, then in the middle of the page, you'll see Primary Membergroup and Additonal Membergroups. That's where you join members up to Groups.

Dave, don't hijack another thread to ask a question, there is a good chance it won't be noticed.  In the future, please start your own topic.

To make a member a global mod, go to their profile and click Account Related Settings on the left, then under their name select a primary member group, scroll down to Global Moderator.

Webhigh, two things.  One, I don't think you understand permissions completely, no.  Two, there's a mod for member-specific permissions.

Moderators can, automatically, see boards they moderate.  I didn't say Global Moderators, because it is not true of them - just local moderators.  Even if they do not have access to the board by way of group access, they are given access because they can moderate it.

This seems to be wrong for me. I just created a new board and gave access to two of my groups. I tried to add a person as moderator who is not member of one of these groups. He now told me he can not see the new board, even as the group "Moderator" has all rights for this board. I think i will have to set up a special group just for this user, but that seems to be a very complicated way to give a user moderator-rights.

You cannot give board moderators any permissions or access to a board, since they are only moderators within a certain board.

If you are a moderator of Administration and Functionality, then outside of that board you are NO DIFFERENT from anyone else.  This is the permissions model SMF works under; as such, you receive no special treatment outside the board you moderate.  If you want moderators to receive any special treatment, you can easily create a "moderators" group just for them.
