Why not?  And it may or may not, that hasn't been totally decided.

well the upgrade from SE to SMF is pretty much seamless I'd guess... very easy... also, its not actually out yet...
As for mods... well no doubt ALOT of them will be standard features... and the good ones will no doubt be ported over pretty quickly as well.

And SMF promises "seamless mod aplication" or something ;)

hmmm i think i might upgrade when i think everything has calmed down... when will that upgrade be realeased

as yet they're not saying anything :P

but basically the second Beta is available to the charter members (I think).
And after this private beta... there will be a public beta (or maybe another private one...)
My personal guess is that a public copy (beta) will be available mid-November, to maybe early December... but thats just a hopeful guess (hopeful coz my exams end mid-November and I'll be able to get modding with SMF ;))

Well SMF even in BETA stages is shaping up to be the ultimate forum on the internet and my upgrade from YaBB SE was very simple.

Be very wise to consider waving the SMF flag in the future ;)

What sort of MODS are you looking for to be added to a SMF forum then that you feel are useful that have been on your YaBB SE install?

So, I'm curious...

Is SMF a version of Yabbs? Or is it a clone? Or is it a mod? Or is it competition to Yabbs?

I've got a Yabbs running, fairly new, but I must say I like the clean look to SMF. I had a heck of a time finding help on the Yabbs site.. although once I found the right spot, help was very quick.

In any event, I have an interest in a special feature of SMF. I'm told that SMF will allow me to appoint a moderator to a specific TOPIC area. I've looked through this board for that but haven't seen it. Can someone show me?

I'd love your comments regarding the comparision between the two.

I AM a Canadian.. so... ;D

SMF is the next step in the YaBB SE eveolution.  YaBB SE will be discontinued with the first public release of SMF.

Thanks for that... can you confirm the moderator question I asked?

Thanks

Peter

David

In both YaBB SE and SMF you can appoint moderators on a board by board basis.  With SMF you can even appoint a membergroup as a moderator for a certain board but I do not believe they will be listed as moderators, they will just have the moderator powers.
