Anyone else having this experience, it is always the same ip address and yet I do not understand why there is a constant attempt to post, along with multiple offset errors. Am I missing something here? Or is it just a hijacked ip address? Any ideas or experiences similar let me know and the possible solution would be very much appreciated.

Bots check everything, but not actually do anything, well, bots like Google and Yahoo Slurp anyway. I see it also.

Do you have google adsense on your forum?
If so, as you browse, you are triggering google adsense spiders to visit.

If you don't have adsense, google spiders may attempt to crawl 'posting' pages. However these pages contain a noindex variable which tells google and other spiders not to include those pages within its search engine.

For the record, google spiders never actually 'post'.

Great responses I appreciate it and looking forward to more as of late I have been seeing more then a few events and usually when a guest is posting it is an attempt to circumvent. Of course if it is all bots, then that makes sense but if I see another ip that is posting that is not associated with anything worthy of understanding I place a ban on it. Any clues on how else you can decipher bots from spammers?

Spammers will register then post, googlebot won't.

Good Point, so then is it worth it to remove the current bans of addresses I have seen doing the same to see if they register and ban?

I wouldn't ban googlebot, if you want to get included by google into its search engine index.

If you want to detect which are bots.  Enable Search engine tracking via Admin > Features & Options.

And checkout my "More Spiders" mod.
