Please  do not delete the original post and then repost the identical content...

I have noticed you doing this several times in several threads here and in the Spanish section.  Doing that is the SAME THING as "double posting" and will get you marked for spam.

and yet... You will be getting that advice from me - because - if you continue that sort of behavior, you will get marked as a spammer.
This is not my mod... and the mod author will (probably) respond at some point... but reposting content to "bump" the post is more likely to piss people off than to get an answer.

Hi Friends,
First, I should say that I haven't read the entire 43 pages of this topic.  So I apologize if I've missed a similar comment.

I wanted to suggest what I think would make a nice feature for this mod.  I'll bet that a lot of admins use the Articles mod for things besides true articles.  For example, I'm using as a way for members to contribute tutorials (for Inkscape, vector graphics editor).  I would love it if I could change the tab to say Tutorials, instead of Articles.  Maybe someone would used Articles to publish recipes, for another example.  They might like the tab to say "Recipes".  Maybe someone uses it to post movie reviews, or reviews about anything -- book reviews, software reviews, etc.  They might like the tab to say "Reviews".  And etc.

When I first started my SMF forum (with Tiny Portal), there was a mod that allowed the text on any tabs to be changed.  But after an upgrade, it no longer worked.  Then I found another mod that allows you to add new tabs, which is what I'm using now.  But as many admins probably experience, I have more tabs than can fit on 1 screen.  So the tabs sort of get wrapped around, although not in a way that looks nice (you can't read the text on the wrapped tabs, and you can hardly see the wrapped tabs at all - they're sort of a shadow).   So it would be nice not to have the 2 tabs going to the same place.   And if, as part of the Articles mod, the tab text could be changed, it would be really helpful.

Just a friendly suggestion.  And certainly nothing urgent.  Thanks for listening.   :)

Edit -- Perhaps it would be more appropriate to request a mod where tabs' text can be changed, tabs can be rearranged, and tabs can be hidden.  If you all think that would be more appropriate, I would be glad to post a request for such a mod.  But I thought I would have a better chance of someone adding a feature to a mod that stays current, than someone writing a new mod.  There used to be such a mod, but I can't find it anymore.  TA

Is there a way to reorder the articles after they're submitted? I have this mod as a history section on my site that is currently arranged by year, but I want to be able to keep this order after other articles are added. The order will break if I can't control their arrangements. e.g., I don't want year 1985 showing after year 2014 if a user adds an article after it.

Not at the moment.

Hi again Friends,
If I recall, from having made a few posts in this thread (in the past year or 2) (in case this message gets moved, this is the thread:  http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=259659.840) this mod hasn't be upgraded or changed in quite a while.  Yet it appears to remain a popular mod!

In case it ever is upgraded, I just discovered something that I hope would be fixed.  And actually, partly this affects all of SMF....somehow....although I don't understand how the program works from the coding perspective.  Now that I think of it, maybe this would better be posted somewhere else, related to smileys.  I'll have to leave it to your judgement where it should go.

Actually, maybe this is a bug, or something is broken in my forum?  I'll have to leave that part up to you.

I love smileys and have 100s of them loaded into my forum -- nearly 100 in the editor, and maybe 250 more in the "(more)" pop-up.  (half of them are related to the program which the forum supports, which is Inkscape, a vector graphic editor - lotta buttons!)

Even though the smileys are loaded and edited and managed from the admin panel, they show up in mods like this SMF Articles, in PMs (can't remember if PMs are a mod or not), and in SMFPacks ShoutBox.  However, if I need to open the pop-up, to get a smiley to post in the forum, and later need to get a smiley from the popup for a PM or Shout or Article, I have to open the popup directly from wherever I am.  I cannot get the smiley, to go in a shout, from the popup I opened in the forum.  I have to open the pop-up from wherever I need to use it.  And on a busy day, keeping 3 or 4 of those pop-ups open can get confusing!

So in that sense, maybe it's more related to how SMF makes the smileys work.  I'm not sure about that part.

What I just noticed, while writing and editing an article from SMF Articles, is that if I already have the smiley pop-up open, because I already used a smiley from it in the article, and I save the article, it somehow disables the pop-up from working.  Because if I re-open the article to edit again, and need another smiley from that pop-up, I have to open a fresh new pop-up!

Does this sound like something is broken, or a bug?  Or normal and expected behavior?  Any chance of avoiding having to open the smiley popup so many different times?

Let's see....  This is SMF 2.0.9, Tiny Portal 1.107, and a long list of other mods, something like 45.  But I can list them if necessary.  Not sure if you need it, but my forum http://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php.  Although you won't be able to.....well you can't post a message, shout, Pm or article, but there does seem to be a way to access my smileys without being a member, if that would help.  I'm using with Firefox....haven't tested with IE - but I could, if it seems like this would be a browser issue?

Thanks for your help  :D

Arantor

That is how SMF works. When you close the editor in the first page, the internal reference from the pop up goes with it. By the time the second page is loaded, the pop up does not know where to send the smiley code you select. Not sure it is fixable either.

brynn

Hhmmm....well that's too bad.

As I said before, I know little to nothing about coding, in any language.  I guess telling it to connect to any open editor isn't possible?  Or maybe would take major work to accomplish?

Well, certainly not the end of the world!

Thanks for letting me know   :)

Arantor

If it is possible, which I doubt, it would be a fairly hefty change to the editor, I think.

MrMike

I'm looking for a mod that would be suitable to create a recipe listing site. Do you think this mod would lend itself to that?

I'm willing to do modifications to make it "fit" the function of a recipe directory but I'm wondering if you think this mod would be a good candidate for a place to start?

Kindred

not really...

I started on a recipe mod a while back. Have to search it out again.

Actually, the custom form mod might not be a bad start...

Depends you can relabel the text strings. It is generic enough

I am worked on a pro edition of this mod to still not sure on the feature set though.

Kindred, VBGamer,

Thanks for the replies. I've looked at a number of mods trying to see if they might lend themselves to a recipe directory but nothing jumps out at me.

The SMF Articles mod looks like it might work, it has categories and commenting which are two features that would be nice to have (actually, categories is a must-have, obviously).

The Custom Form Mod also looks good, but seems like it has a steep learning curve. It also seems like it's intended to post to a board and not to an individual page or entry- is that correct?

I also looked at the SA Knowledge Base mod...in some ways it seems like it would lend itself nicely to a recipe directory but I'm not sure how easy it would be to change some of the basic layout items (like having the main page show the categories in columns, for example). But other than that it seems like it would work pretty well.

The alternative is to code one from scratch, which I could do, I'm just not wild about spending the time to do that.

Do either of you know if any of the portal mods (Simple Portal, ezPortal, etc) might have a block or plugin that would work for a recipe directory?

vbgamer45

Well I use basiclly the same base for my mods. So SMF articles, Downloads System, SMF Link, SMF Gallery have basically the same base which just tweaks/updates made to each one.
