How do I know if the cache is working?

I have a question, with SMF 2, it has a caching system, done in the cache directory. But how do I know if it is actually working? I look in my cache directory, but I never see anything... Or do they pretty much only stay for a bit then get deleted?

No, they certainly persist for a long time although I don't know how long. Maybe until they are manually flushed or until you install a mod package.

I just checked two of my sites and both caches are stuffed full of files.

Hmm, my folder is at 777, and is writeable and everything, and I see nothing =|

Is the cache path correct (check in Settings.php or Server Settings)

Yup, the path is correct

Issue fixed: caching is required to be enabled.

SMF does state this however hopefully this can be made clearer in a future release.

I never enabled my cache and I'm 100% certain that it is working fine.
