Upgraded here.  Absolutely no trouble.  Nothing is lost. No errors being generated either. 

Do yourself and Nao a favor.  Upgrade to Aeva Media already.

Ok, so I interpret your answers that I can solve my problem described below with an update to Aeva?!? That I can't belive ... May I'm a stupid one but not sooo stupid... An update can only work well if the base also working well. The only what I can achieve is an Aeva with the same problem as minimum...

Ok... I asked here for help with my problem but all what I get are dumb comments and massive "update to Aeva" ******. That show me that you and not you alone havent registered the Problem. Fact is that an update to Aeva dont solve that but that you don't like to see. It is even   expected that an update of all remaining relations completely destroyed. And it looks like that's just in your senses ...

I don't care what you have to say. Aeva Media *IS* the new version of SMG. SMG is no longer supported. If you don't upgrade, then you don't get the fixes to SMG. If you don't want them, you'll start complaining about problems that have already been fixed in Aeva Media. If you're gonna make me waste my time, I'd rather you stop right now. If you're using a free product, don't expect free support from the author. ESPECIALLY when you're not willing to listen to his recommendations. Just uninstall SMG and use a paid-for product. I'm sure their author will enjoy a lot hearing from you and your unwillingness to do what they ask you when you report a problem.

Oh, by the way, Aeva Media isn't supported on MacOS 7.0, Windows 3.1 and DOS 6.0 or earlier. You need to upgrade software from time to time you know.

This really is not hard to understand, for quite a   few but probably still behind the intellectual horizon. And to express something to the horizon: An   update does not save the contents of the gallery ...

Kinda stepped in the middle of something I don't understand.  What I do need to understand is this:  You (Nao) are stating that I need to upgrade to Aeva.  That's fine albeit I just upgraded SMG in DEC.  The pertinent questions are these:

• Good thread to immerse myself in the movement of all my pix from SMG to Aeva
• Good thread to learn Aeva
• And to confirm SMG at it's current state will no longer be updated/supported?

Figured by simply sending me to threads it would cut back on your need to type.  I changed the permissions for guests (never set them up as we don't actively seek membership).

That's the number of unseen images.  Go to Gallery tab, then click on "Unseen".  It should show you those 125 items.  There's a link there to mark all as unseen.

Thanx!    That took the number away.  What exactly does 'Unseen' mean?  Pix I never viewed?  I mean by clicking 'Mark All As Unseen' what does that action do?  No big deal, I'm simply a curious kinda person.

It was rebranded because of an agreement with Dragooon, that I would own the moral rights on SMG 3.0 and he would retain the ones on earlier versions. I renamed it to make the change clearer. I even discussed it many times. I simply renamed database tables (they're automatically renamed when doing the upgrade for the first time), and didn't touch any of the files. 
And no, "SMG in its current state" will no longer (ever) be updated or supported. It's stated in the official mod page, in plain view! My!
And Unseen Items is the same as SMF's Unread Posts, only for items instead of topics.

I upgraded a while back with no trouble at all, on a custom theme, with several other mods installed. Great job Nao, keep doing what you're doing.

I'm not sure why everyone is so reluctant to upgrade.

Solution:

There is no "movement" of pictures from SMG to Aeva. It stays in the same place!! Aeva Media 1.0 really is SMF Media Gallery 3.0. I simply renamed database tables (they're automatically renamed when doing the upgrade for the first time), and didn't touch any of the files. 

M*I*B you need to relax a little. You have a problem and in between Nao's anger, he gave you the solution, an explanation and an assurance about your issue. If upgrading is a problem, maybe it helps to just say why this is a problem. You can manually uninstall SMG if automatic uninstall gives error. Don't delete your gallery. You only need to edit the files .php on your forum. While you are busy, you might not see your gallery any more. But as soon as you install AM everything will reappear.

I know Nao can sometimes express his rightful frustration very vividly, remember it is you who need help and Nao (and maybe some others) is the one who is probably going to help you solve the problem.
And please don't start insulting a whole nation by saying things like:

It would not be right if one would start writing about you being a GermanMan etc. Being French or German does nothing to solve the problem you have with your forum, or does it? Besides, it just diminishes the importance of the discussion.

And don't forget that NAO was the one starting with insults ... I only step down to NAO's niveau so that he can unterstand me...

Ok, enough with this. I got help from other sides to locate and solve the problem (without trouble). For me the thing is closed and I delete the subscribtion for this thread.

I'll interject one thing here, and hope that it helps.  I have a fairly large gallery, at least it seems so to me.  About 6000 photos and MP3 files, along with a few videos.  My backups are about 8 gigs.  I was extremely hesitant to upgrade from SMG 2.05 to AM.  I hemmed and hawed for a couple of weeks because I was having problems completely running some of the maintenance procedures in SMG.  (My shared server is a bit weak, and it was not up to the task)  Things weren't "perfect" and so I was convinced that the upgrade process would time out on my server and cause disaster because of all the "changes" it would have to make.

But then I found out that upgrading does not move any data on the hard drive, it only changes the SQL table names, and adds a few fields here and there.  So I finally made the leap, and it literally took seconds to finish, and that was it.  I was done.

So I suggest backing up your forum, backing up your database, and go for it.  You'll be stuck in a dead end with SMG 2.05.

MIB: Upgrading does not erase or remove anything. All of your content form SMG is moved into the AEVA format. (not, you can NOT downgrade after that)
However... as always: MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE UPGRADING.
