In v2.0 b3.1, is there an easier way to change which membergroups can view which board rather than going into each individual board and modifying by unchecking the name?

I decided that I don't want my guests to peruse the forum, but I don't want to go back thru every board to uncheck the guests.  Is there a way to just list he boards guests can view at once and then uncheck the boards you don't want them to view?

No, you will need to go through each individual board.

Although if you don't want guests to be able to view your forum, then you can disable the 'Allow guests to browse the forum' setting in the admin area under 'Configuration' -> 'Features and Options' -> 'Options'.

Ok, I had that selected, but went to people online and still saw guests on boards. (Although this was on my 1.1.5 forum)   Can guests still get to places if they entered via a search engine link?

Final question... A ban or suspension does not keep someone from browsing the forum?  just from logging in or registering.  They can still browse if guests are allowed to browse??

You should be able to choose which groups are allowed to view a board by going to Admin > Boards and click on Modify link for the board in question. You can then select all the groups you want to allow/deny access to.

If guests try to go to the link directly or via a search engine link, they will see a message saying they must login or that it's off limits to them.

I haven't tested this myself, but they might still be able to view the forum as a guest....someone correct me if I'm wrong here. If that's the case, then you will need to create .htaccess file to deny them access.

I have a question related to this.

I would like to have an "admin-only" board, that is viewable only to admins, global moderators, and moderators. Regular members should not be able to view the board.

So, under Admin > Boards > Modify Boards, I set the 'Allowed Groups' to just be Global Moderator. ('Moderator' is not an available option.)

Now, my admins and global moderators can access the board, but my moderators cannot. I even tried making them moderators of the "admin-only" board itself - but they still cannot view it.

Is there a way to have a board that is viewable only to admins, global mods, and mods?

Just did a quick test and confirmed that it's happening here also....will ask the other staff members to see why this is the case.

^ Thanks - glad to know it's not just me.

BTW, this is also occurring in SMF 1.1.6.  Can't seem to set up a board that is only viewable by Mods, Global Mods, and Admins.  ???

This is by design and is the intended behavior. The Moderator group is in a way...unique. They will need to be in some actual membergroup and given access to the board in order to view this. You can put them into a special new moderator group that you create and grant access that way.

Okay, thanks so much. I set up a special membergroup ("Mod-Team") and made it a secondary membergroup for each of the Mods. Then I restricted access to the Mod-only board to that membergroup.

So I am all set. Thank you!
