I made a forum using phpBB3 a few days ago. It has absolutely nothing on it. Can I just delete the phpBB3 files? And then install SMF?

Nathaniel

Yes, if you haven't actually setup anything with your phpbb3 forum, then there is no point in trying to run the converter. A clean install of SMF will be much easier. ;)

Alright.

How do I delete phpBB3?

First I go into "File Manager" on my cPanel, and then what?

Nathaniel

You will have to delete the database/user or tables that you created for the phpbb3 forum, as well as the files in the directory that you installed it into. If you used a script like fantasico then that should be able to delete it for you.

Where do I go to delete it, if I may ask? Sorry its my first time hosting on the web!

BlackXBOX

Okay I used Fantastico De Luxe to remove it.

Is that all I need to do?

Nathaniel

Yes, it will have automatically removed all of the phpbb3 files and the database as well. You should now be able to use fantasico to install SMF if you want. You can also install it manually, its really easy although you might just want to just fantasico. ;)

Nathaniel

It depends on what you want. If you want it to be a forum that is a part of a larger website then 'forum' would be a good directory to put it into, if you want it to be your main website then put it in your main directory (leave the setting blank). You can always move it easily later on if you need to. ;)

Alright installed successfully. It also recommended me to update to 1.1.6, which I did.

Now I gotta check out the automatic mod installer!!
