SMF 2.0 beta 4 currently has no known security holes. I would suggest limiting the users who have admin access and have a strong password just for your forum only.

also keep up to date with smf. as soon as there is a update apply it to a test that that is running exactly what your "live" site is and make sure it does not mess anything up then apply it to your live site. I have also been told that is something everyone should be doing.
