@ fedup-really-fedup

Check your settings in settings.php it is not a problem with SMF, it is mainly with MySQL, you cant do anything with that ! if your information is correct then it is the host which has the problems.

check this out:

Funny they don't seem to tell you this before you sign up. Also the story of your database only being up to 100 megs. I have looked at other hosting but they seem to be rather small in what they give you. I would hate to change over and only find out later that I don't have enough disk space or bandwidth for my forum. I have tried to get stats from other members here on what there forum is using but never really got much. To change over I need to know that the hosting will serve my purposes without having to change again.

What hosting package have you got with them, I am on the "Home package"

Dirtrider, this occurred again yesterday (Sunday) to our forum.  I was not on line; but I received the email notification.  Usually, the site becomes slow prior to being unable to connect.

Yes I also go the mail and sent it off to them as they requested. Never got a reply from them about it.

this will probably shed some light on the problems some of us are experiencing:

 (this time I know it's not just a standard reply):

"Thank you for contacting us.

Thank you for the quick email reply.
Regarding your concern we can check your settings in our end using our
tools (SSH) you can also refer to this link
http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/index.php?topic=218152.0 [nofollow]. This link is
also about MySQL error which have too many connections at the same time.
We also see this information using our tool
Question Is there a limit on concurrent MySQL server connections from a
Linux Shared package?

Answer Yes, there is a limit. Not more than 18 connections are allowed
at the same time.

This is what we got when we check in your MySQL settings.

mysql> SHOW VARIABLES;
and should see a long output like this:

| max_user_connections
18

| max_tmp_tables | 32
| transaction_alloc_block_size
|8192
|| transaction_prealloc_size |
4096
|| version |
4.0.25-standard-log
|| version_comment | Official MySQL
RPM
|
| version_compile_os |
pc-linux-gnu
|| wait_timeout | 3

If your site will grow then I advise that you buy a server package.
There is no way to lift this but really need to buy a server package to
maximize the number of concurrent connections that can go to your site
at the same time.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for posting this.  I sent the link on to Dirtrider since he is our forum owner.  I have noticed the problem occurs in our forum during the peak hours of North American usage. I am not sure what a server package is; but Dirtrider will know.

I see the server package that they suggest starts off at  $29/month  :o There is no ways I could afford this for my forum  :(

Have a look at this http://webhostinggeeks.com/ I will be checking out a few of these for future reference

That is too steep for us.  It is time to start looking for a change.
