problems adding avatars to profile

One of my users complains that she can't add an avatar from an URL.
I tried it myself and I got this error:

The attachments directory (shouldn't it be the avatars folder anyway?) is chmodded to 777.
What else could be wrong?

Your attachments path seems to be wrong, or not writable.

Use a full path, not just "attachments".
