I noticed two days ago our forum hit 25K posts. I screenshotted it becuase I thought it was rather interesting to hit right on 25K... However it is still at 25K posts and not budging a bit.

Is there a setting somewhere that will auto-purge old posts that take the total beyond 25K?

I do daily backups - so this is something I can manually repair if nothing else, but I would still like to know if I am missing something (well, obviously I am).

Most certainly not.  You mean it's not even moving a single post?  That's bad... do you know how to use phpMyAdmin?  What is phpMyAdmin?

SELECT COUNT(ID_MSG)
FROM smf_messages;

Does that give a number higher than, or the same as, the count being displayed in the forum?

ok... I ran through and forced a recount of all posts... and nothing changed. So I walked away.

However, in the time it took me to get some dr. pepper and then run the query, two new people posted. And the posts were suddenly counted!

smf_messages returned a value of 2.

yabbse_messages returned a value of 25002. (yeah, upgraded from yabbse the day after release of SMF 1.0 - awesome work btw)

For some reason - nothing was counted in the forum total post count over the past 4 days (since the 31st). Recounting added nothing to this total, so a bunch of messages (and I have no idea which ones) simply disappeared, or are not being counted at least.

Don't take this wrong but it is something that may have been over looked.

The posts that didn't get counted were they on boards WITH post count turned on.

(Even experts forget little details every once in a while :blush: )

The total overall post count doesn't take into account boards that count posts.

Perhaps someone (moderator, admin, etc?) was deleting posts?

We have only one board where post counts are disabled ( a playground of sorts ), and only three members with access to delete posts.

I spoke to the other two and neither of them have touched a thing (we never delete anything, simply move to a moderation board).

One of the other guys noticed the post count at 25K, but didn't even think it might be stuck, neither did I until I grabbed a screenie and sent it to one of them who already had one that was two days old...The count is still climbing again.. ever since I recounted totals....
