This is a "Classic" era Star Trek theme. It uses gradients for the category and title backgrounds, and Star Trek themed icons.

Please note: Firefox (and other browsers using the Gecko engine) and Safari/Google Chrome (and other browsers using the Webkit engine) will see the optimal version of this theme. All others (IE, Opera, Konqueror users) will see a less-than-optimal version. At this time, and without making large coding edits, this is the closest I can get to optimal on non-Gecko/Wekbit browsers.

Theme is based on DzinerStudio's DarkBreak theme. Most of the icons are copyright to Cmdr. T. Weimann of http://www.lcars-interface.de. All other icons made by Eliana Tamerin.

Long answer:

Because SMF's next default theme is really what this should be made for.

The main issue here is that catbgs and titlebgs are all one image for IE and Opera compatibility purposes, and unless I go through and change ALL the code for catbgs and titlebgs, or do some kind of hacky javascript fix (which I'm not doing), the images have to have every component for the catbg and titlebg.

In more practical terms, that means that while the category and title backgrounds display fine on the Board Index, they cut off on the other pages. I can overcome this in Firefox and Google Chrome/Safari by using a CSS property that is specific to those browsers (actually their engines).

But in short, to fix this would require a recode of all pages, and this would be pointless since SMF's next default theme already does this and includes the necessary code. So we'll all have to just wait for it to be released until I can actually "fix" this theme.

And as far as converting it to 1.1.x, it would be even more work to change the coding and so forth when SMF's next New Default Theme comes out. So really, this is something that can be achieved, optimally on a theme based on Curve, and not Core. And SMF's new default theme will be for SMF 2.0 only. So that further negates the benefit of theming this for SMF 1.1.x, since it still won't be "fixed" for 1.1.x.

If you or someone else wishes to convert this theme to SMF 1.1.x for personal use, that's fine. Just leave the credits to me and Bikken/Dziner there.

If someone wants to convert this theme to SMF 1.1.x and redistribute it or share their changes, then they'll need to contact me for permission first.

Nice job. I was wondering when you'd do the official release over here.  ;)

ETA: You've got some code displaying across the top of your demo page.

Yeah, that's a bug in SMF 2 Beta 4. I'll comment out the code that's causing it.

EDIT: Fixed.

Very different design. I liked it very much.

Eliana,

I have made a Star Trek RPG site using this wonderful theme and of course, SimplePortal. :P

I must say, as a trek fan, I love this theme, and only had to make a few minor changes to fit into the site and style. I'd love to have your opinion on how it looks, with the changes I made.

How do you do that trasnparency effect? I loved that

EDIT

OMG I realized it is an image ... I know how to do that, but I saw transparency effects in other themes of the same website where the demo is...  interesting !

I noticed a "problem" with part of the theme. I suppose it may be intentional, in which case it wouldn't be a problem. :) Anyways, the search box gets cut off on the right side. It looks weird to me, because it's not flush with the border of the header. If it were flush, I think it would look okay.

Anyways, I made a few code changes. You can check out the result if you like. If anyone is interested in the code, I'd be happy to post it.

The search box isn't supposed to be flush with the header, that would look weird (to me).

And outside of the background image change, I don't see much of a difference with the theme on your site. Can you explain it or provide the code so I can see?

The only thing I was referencing was the search box. I moved and resized it to use the full background image. Originally, it was cutting off the rounded corners on the right side. I'll get some screenshots and post them to show the difference. :)

I really like the theme. *thumbs up* I've been trying to find a good Star Trek theme for awhile. So, thank you! haha

Okay, here is are a couple of screenshots.

The left side is from the demo site. The right side is from my site. I simply adjusted the search box to use the full background image. :)

That doesn't show up for me (on the demo). What browser/OS are you using?

I'm currently using WinXP and FF3 at 1650x1080. It showed up the same for me last night on another machine (WinXP and FF3 at a lower resolution - can't remember the exact numbers).

I just checked the demo site with IE7 on this machine, and it shows up correctly.

That's odd, it worked fine on Windows XP and Firefox 3/IE/Chrome/Opera. It worked fine on Ubuntu and Firefox 3. It works fine with Windows 7 (Beta) and Firefox 3. Weird.

To make this work on SMF 1.1.x, a simple trick I used is to download the DarkBreak theme and then replace all the images and CSS with TrekBreak.  Works perfectly.

lizsan

Could someone help me fixing this theme to 2.0RC2? The theme is based on Daybreak which exist in the new 2.0RC2 version, but I can't transform it to Trekbreak.. I simply don't understand the CSS.

coucnilhomeswap

will this theme work in smf 2.0 rc3

bullbreedluverz

This theme wont work on RC3 but if you know a bit of coding then you could download the DarkBreak theme from DzinerStudio which this theme was based on and try add the changes to it from this theme

Burke ♞ Knight

Eliana Tamerin,

Like I've said before, this theme is great. However, right now, as I'm just getting back into things, there is no way I can update this myself for 2.0.4.
Is there a way you might be able to work on it for me? Please do if you can, because I really need to update my site to 2.0.4 instead of Beta 4.

@ Anyone else, if someone already did this, please let me know.

Thank you.

Burke
