Upload this to your smf root and run it: http://www.simplemachines.org/download.php/repair_settings.php

What is repair_settings.php?

i presume my directories etc. have got messed up.

how could this be though if i havn't been fiddling with the forum settings?

peterstannard

i've just used repair_settings but it doesn't appear to have done anything, still get the same error.

Try restoring your Settings.php file (Delete Settings.php, rename Settings.php.bak to Settings.php)

Re-upload index.php and /Sources/Security.php

One of the above should work..
