SMF was unable to connect to the database???

This has started to pop up in the last 2-3 days, and it is getting worse. Until two weeks ago, SMF was running fine, and I am wondering what is going on? I think we upgraded some things - but I used to have 200+ users, now it is not even supporting 50???  He is what it says, and you need to refresh once, twice, three times to get it.

it is most likely a server error, try talking with your host...

If the error is happening at about 50, and goes away with a refresh, it's probably the max connections setting set to 50.
