Problem installing mod

I have been unsucceful at installing the message icon mod with the package manger. I get the following error messge:

2: copy(index.php~): failed to open stream: Permission denied
File: /home/bdm721/public_html/forum/Sources/Subs-Package.php
Line: 1285

I don't have a clue what that means.
Any help will be appreciated.

try and chmod index.php~ to 777

I checked and it is already 777

try removing the index.php~, but it should already work if index.php~ is 777...

Is the folder (smf, forum, etc.) SMF is installed in 777 itself?

The folder was 755, I changed the permissions and it installed flawlessly. Thanks for the help!
