Hi, I recently installed smf to a new website for the first time and my problem is that now when i search for that new website the search engine finds the forum instead of the main website.
What did I miss? Please help.
Thank you.

I think we would need more info to help on this. Normally this happens when people link directly to the forum. Does your forum link back to your main site? Also what are the keywords people are searching for, maybe those key words are on the forum but not on the main site.
Thank you,
Robert aka godboko

Hi again, thank you for your quick response.
Within my website directory I uploaded a new website, but since I installed smf in this new website the search engine finds only the forum in hxxp:shamdram.com [nonactive] not the new website home page. In my directory there is hxxp:shamdram.com [nonactive] where I keep all my files for this website of course, including the uploaded files for smf.
The problem could be within hxxp:shamdram.com [nonactive]'s directory where are index.htm and index.php , so could it be that index.php took over index.htm?
It is a bit too confusing for me now, I just wanted smf forum linked from hxxp:shamdram.com [nonactive] home page; the situation now is the home page only comes up if I use hxxp:shamdram.com/index.htm. [nonactive]

Hi, me again :)
...if the problem is in my directory where I uploaded smf as I mentioned above, would I be able to transfer the smf files under a different name in hxxp:shamdram.com [nonactive]'s directory, so then I could use that web address for my main website?
Please could you let me know what options I have got to solve this problem.
Thank you for your help.

mmm youve sort of tied me in knots here but I think I know what your getting at. Firstly it is not a problem to have any part of your site listed in search engines. The more the better and if youve got your forum listed fast then youv donebetter than me because it took me 6 months for google to list a single page of it.

Right.

1.back up your forum database and files. Then reinstall your files and databse in a sub folder ie http://shamdram.com/forum or http://shamdram.com/amateur-dramatics-forum

Then clear out your root directory of all the forum files and upload your website into the root directory. Ie the index.html and other sites.

Currently your forum has overwritten your html pages in the main directory.

Do you think I have understood you and this is the right advice ??

shamdram

Hi, thank you for your advice, I'll try to follow your instructions, even though I'm getting more and more confused :-\   I'll let you know how I'm getting on. Thanks again.
