So yes, no. Accessing it through your cPanel is not FTP.

Please answer the question. But before you do that, use any FTP client and FTP to the site, then tell me if you can see your files.

You can either get or create your FTP account via your cPanel. If you cannot do this, either ask here or ask your hosting service. (Which is who?)
I don't have a FTP client on my computer (in fear that my 400mHz of a computer will blow up in sight of one), but I have changed the password on it a few times to see if that is the problem.
If you don't believe me, I could surly videotape it, and post it online if you want me to.

Smoky "Rider" Blue

there is such a thing as a online ftp..

here is a good one to use:  http://www.net2ftp.com/

i do believe you Willielwgg, and if i can figure out why it happens on some, will post up  ;)

Willie, you don't need to prove anything to me. I get paid just the same whether I solve your problem or not. I'm an unpaid volunteer.

I had an FTP client on my old 66 MHz Pentium III computer.

You wanna work with me, I'll help you fix it. But if you want to buck me then I can't help you. It's your choice.

Now go get an FTP client and between it and your hosting service, make it connect. Then report back what you learned.

I didn't mean to be mean, that is really the only other way that I can prove it.
*Sigh* I'll try a FTP
Ill post back

Smoky "Rider" Blue

There has been a related bug ticket filed, just FYI.  No resolution yet, but thought i'd let you know of its existence.

Trust me Willie. I'm an old timer engineer. You don't solve the tough problems by making up your mind that "this ain't it."

After the easy solutions are tried, and failed, only the tough solutions remain, and only the tough engineers solve them. I'm the toughest of them all, having solved all the problems that my "n00b" junior engineers couldn't solve.

Every difficult engineering problem has 1,000 solutions, and only one of them works. The other 999 are failures. Usually you have to try all 999 of the failed ones before finding the right one.

It's aways the 1,000th one that works. I can't ever figure out why I didn't try #1,000 before the other 999. And yes, I'm unlucky at cards too... and love. ;)

I agree.  The FTP client worked, and my computer didn't blow up (yet :) )
I'm sorry if I was nasty to anybody, it is 12:00, and I should really get some sleep ;D

Sometimes I have tried all 999, and #1,000 comes to me at 5:30 in the morning, heck its life, and I'm not too good at it.

Smoky "Rider" Blue

ok willielwgg.. good to hear  :)

so lets hope they come up with a good permanent fix for this, so go get some rest and maybe it will happen soon..  just keep checking back..  ;)

Many if not most of my best ideas come to me at 3:30 a.m. as I'm tossing and turning, unable to stay asleep... You see me here online at 5:00 a.m. fixing those problems for other people.

Coding in your sleep?
I gotta try that :D

Willie, honestly that is exactly what I do. I've been doing it for many years. I have problems at work (techie, not personal) and as I fall asleep I think them over, and often toss and turn and when I can't sleep I focus on the problems as a means of calming my mind and hopefully going back to sleep. Sometimes I fall asleep and sometimes I screw up and solve my tech problems instead. I've often wished I could find a way to bill my consulting customers for this, and in the end I decided to just STFU and have them think I'm simply brilliant rather than them realizing I'm working 24 hours a day. :)

Some of you think I'm BS-ing but honestly it's the truth. Really, I do solve real coding problems in my sleep. And also honestly, but sadly, I sleep only 4-6 hours per day, and sometimes suffer fatigue attacks during the daytime. I would gladly sleep 8-9 hours per day and screw the ideas I come up when I'm sleepless...

Sometimes I even fix SMF problems in my sleep, now that I've been on the site a lot.

Any ideas?

Is this when clicking the link for the update?  If so, try downloading the patch file directly from the release announcement topic in News and Updates and upload it to the Packages directory -- either via FTP or through the admin panel, then try installing it.
