I've just been searching through the forums here, and I seem to have the same problem as the person here: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=26497.0 with the install page seemingly just refreshing once I click on Proceed.

I have set all my folders and neccesary files chmod's to 777, and also checked to see if it is the problem that this person has by having the right 'Local Path to SMF', which after checking after logging into my FTP, I believe is 'web/df' (i'm guessing this is right, as web is where my webpages go, and then df is the directory of my forums. All the directories I see are: bin, cgi-bin, etc, logs, opt, tmp, usr, var and web). I've tried using 'web/df' as well as 'web/df/Sources'.

I've been trying to install the Visual Warning/Post Moderation by Grudge, but still get the same thing:

LainaaInstall Actions for archive warningv_1.21.tar.gz:

I have just upgraded the forums from SMF 1.0RC to SMF 1.0.2, and I have PHP Version 4.3.10 and SQL Version 3.23.58... Does anyone think they can help? :/

Try "/web/df" as the path (without the quotes of course).

Nope, that didn't do it. Does exactly the same as before, just seemingly refreshing the page.

And you're sure every file/folder used by this mod is chmodded to 777?

Yes, just went through again and double checked. Every file, every folder. Is there any way just to manually install these packages, because this Package Manager is such a god damned hassle. :-\

Usually it isn't this difficult, and I apologize for all the trouble you've been having.

I just thought of one thing - when you install a package, it always writes that data to Packages/installed.list. Make sure that this file is chmodded to 666.

After that, double-check everything one last time:

The following need to be chmodded to 777:
index.php
Sources
Sources/Display.php
Sources/Karma.php
Sources/Load.php
Sources/ManagePermissions.php
Sources/ModSettings.php
Sources/Post.php
Sources/Security.php
Sources/Subs.php
Themes/default
Themes/default/images
Themes/default/languages
Themes/default/Display.template.php
Themes/default/index.template.php
Themes/default/Post.template.php
Themes/default/Profile.template.php
Themes/default/languages/Modifications.english.php

If that still doesn't work, I'll show you how to manually install it.

Still didn't work. I thought it may have been that installed.list file, as I had that chmod'd to 777. But i've changed that, and it still did the same thing as before, and just refresh the page and doing nothing. I'm sorry for all the hassle i've been... :(

I am having the same problem i guess.

I did a manual upgrade to version SMF 1.0.2 hoping it would fix it.

When i try to install a package, i get success on all the modifications. But the extracting always fails.

i have given 777 access to everything needed.

Here is my site if you need it hxxp:www.punkp2p.com/forums/index.php [nonactive]

I can't think of what else to do.

I run a test site on my computer and can do some of the packages on it.

But nothing on the server my site is hosted on.

15 minutes isn't that long, especially when there are other people who have problems too.  Your forum hasn't crashed or anything, you just want a mod installed - while we want to help you, it's not as high priority as some of the other issues... I'm sorry.

Anyway, Sources should not be on there for sure.  Make sure you're using localhost for the hostname.  Make sure the username is right.

Next, the path.  When you log into FTP, you might see something like this:

   - etc
   - mail
   - public_ftp
   + public_html
      + forum
         - attachments
         - avatars
         - Packages
      - images
   - www

In that case, your path is "public_html/forum".  No other slashes anywhere else.

And thanks. i have already tried all of that stuff.

this is my local path to SMF - /mnt/nfs-1/vol4/web/p/pu/pun/www.punkp2p.com/web/forums

i have tried

web/forums
www.punkp2p.com/web/forums

none of which do the trick.

i have the correct username and password.

Is there a way to manually install them.

Please try this tool:

http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=28393.0

It does a lot better with autodetection, especially the second time around.

That doesn't do anything for me. It tells me that an error occured. But doesn't tell me what it is.

I have run invision and nuke on this same server and all the mods and everything worked fine with them.

But i like this SMF software. But need some of the mods for the type of site i want to run.

[Unknown]

The thing is, any software will need everything chmod'd.  If you're just getting an unknown error, that probably means you simply are going to need to chmod things 777 manually.
