I had this same issue when I had SMF version 1.1.7.

Whenever I try to use a theme that isn't the default theme, this happens... hxxp:i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii305/number1twcfan/Snapshot2008-12-1518-58-52.png [nonactive]

For reference this is what the default theme looks like... hxxp:i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii305/number1twcfan/Snapshot2008-12-1519-00-05.png [nonactive]

I have no idea what to do. Please help.

Again I apologize if someone has created a topic like this one already.

You can use the repair settings page...

http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=663

Click on repair_settings.php to DL the file. Then upload it to your route directory and go to forumurl/repair_settings.php

This could solve your issue.

I just want to be sure you're ONLY installing a theme through the ADMIN --> THEMES AND LAYOUT --> "Install a new theme" area?

Have you attempted to 'reset all themes' from within your admin control panel.  Make sure the directory paths are similar to the default theme.

FYI, repair_settings.php will only reset the default theme.  The rest of the theme paths are reset from within the admin control panel.

Basics first: clear cache/cookies and do a hard refresh (Ctrl+F5). This will often sort it. If it doesn't, then do what JimM said.

Admin >> Themes and Layout >> Themes and Settings >> Attempt to Reset All Themes (which is at the bottom of the page).
