I have installed the SMF 2 & Joomla 1.5 bridge from: http://code.google.com/p/sjsb/

However, it always tries to wrap the forum inside the joomla layout! How can I just use the usersync, and not the wrapping?

There is no officially supported bridge for SMF and joomla.

You should probably ask the author of that bridge on his google forum.

I prefer having the bridge wrapped for SEO purposes and realize the disadvantage to site speed. But if you're still in the market for an unwrapped version, you may to try Jfusion, which does not wrap SMF and is equally easy to install.
