I have installed SMF2 Beta4 to try it. I like it very much but since I would like to go production soon, I wanted to use the production version. So is it possible to downgrade to SMF 1.1.7? If not, how can I keep my existing posts/threads/users and apply them again after installing 1.1.7?

I havent seen any issue so far and it has been in beta for a long time now. Is there a date on when version 2 will go production?

taha116

I am not sure, but i have heard of downgrading before although I never actually bothered to read about it, Consider this a bump for your topic because I have been wondering the same thing recently.

lol smf is not a psp,but it would be cool though
maybe we can add an smf recovery mode
for when we screw things up like me lol

You can't exactly downgrade... However, it is not recommended to use SMF 2.0 on a production site, doesn't mean you can't...

I mean look at this one... its a production site, its just fine. This Hogville one ones on SMF 2.0 Beta 4 runs fine as well and much much more active or at least more posts then SMF.org ;)

if it doesnt work just delete all the files in the forum directory and delete the database

erm, FYI, "upgrading" the forum from 2.0 to 1.1.7 will likely result in a very broken forum.

There's currently no "downgrader".  Though it is possible to reverse the database changes and a few have done so, it is a very manual process

if the forums got nothing on it, then hes probley be faster to delete the forum and start fresh. How long does it take to manual downgrade

Wow, They have 26 thousand members and 3million posts. Running all that on SMF beta 4? This is truly impressive. I guess I have nothing to worry about. Instead of being scared and looking back to sesure the site I should be more positive and hope for the best. So far I have not seen any issue, so I hope it will continue like this.
By the way did I say I love SMF 2.0? I would encourage more people installing 2.0. It is great software.
Thanks again.

Keep in mind though that the person that helps run that site knows SMF inside and out and can and has fixed bugs as needed to keep the site up and running.

o o! Are you discouraging me from going live with SMF 2.0 Beta4?

SlammedDime

Not at all, but if you're not comfortable with navigating code to find and/or fix bugs, I would not suggest running it on a live site, either that, or run it, and just live with the fact that it may have bugs that are undesireable

Cool. Thanks for clearing that up.
Does anybody know when SMF 2.0 will go into production/release mode?

taha116

No, It comes whenever i guess.... theyre still talking about 1.1.8  So don't expect it anytime soon...

Anyways they're right, you shouldnt need to worry too much... Still try to keep backups of your database and site.. So even if hacker damages your system it wont be to hard to fix things up.... and make backups often

Well, considering that we still offer patch upgrades for security issues in 1.0 alongside the security patches for 1.1 and 2.0, the fact that an issue requiring a 1.1.8 release could pop up wouldn't affect 2.0 or its development time beyond needing to patch it in 2.0 ;)

So there is no ETA or schedule whatsoever about releasing the final version of 2.0?
I was hoping to hear some estimate from the project managers ;)

metallica48423

Well, you see, we do have timeframes we're trying to work with to get things done... but we generally don't announce timeframes because you don't get much but disappointed people when you don't meet them.  We generally feel, however, that its better to miss a timeframe and use the time for improvement than to release an inferior product.

We're very specific on the stability of our releases, though there have been a few problematic ones, naturally -- its all Murphy's law -- as soon as you want something to go your way, it will go the opposite in the worst possible way :P.  The last thing you want to do is release a version that will crater someone's database.

So no, i don't have an estimate to give.  We hope to see an RC soon.
