HELP! My board is gone!

I recently attempted to uninstall the Tiny Portal Mod. Then it told me there were things wrong with index.php and index.template.php and some other files.

I replaced them with the backed-up files (index.php~) and now when I try to go to my forums, I get an error window telling me it cannot find my forum. "Attempt to load URL: http://www.graphicaddicts.net/forums/ has failed."

All of the files are still there... but it tells me they aren't. Is there any way I can fix this, or atleast save the posts before I re-install SMF?

Robert Frost

someone correct me if i'm wrong, but you can reinstall the forum. The posts are kept in the SQL database.

Still, i would recommend to back it up before anything, cause i am not sure of the option above :)

SKETCHi

Wouldn't re-installing replace the SQL database? Or would it create a new one of a different name?

Robert Frost

you see, that is the point i'm not certain in.

back it up. you'll be safer if it does overwrite the database.

Backup the database. Then setup SMF again. Then restore you're database.

I exported the database via phpMyAdmin, how do I restore it after?

And which files from the DB are needed? I had mods installed, and I notice that there are files in the DB from the mods. What will happen if I replace the DB with this old one that has all of the mod files?

IchBin™

AFter you install your forum. Restore the database via phpmyadmin to the same database.

I'm still a bit confused here. Do you have AIM? I'm UnDeRDoSe09

EDIT: I guess not... thanks for the help everyone, but I still need more help. If anyone can help me with this IM me on AIM in about 45 minutes. Thanks.

I hate to double post, but it is very important that I get this fixed ASAP. There are currently advertisers reviewing my website and it needs to be working for me to get accepted.

If you can help me with thise PLEASE PM me or find me on AIM as UnDeRDoSe09

Jerry

you could just delete everything but Settings.php and Settings_bak.php and download and upload the install file. Just don't upload Settings.php and Settings_bak.php again. Might want to save your attachments directoryalso.

It still isn't fixed, I have the database backed up on my computer but there are errors when try to restore it. If some one else can help me, please find me on AIM. Again my account is UnDeRDoSe09

You don't need to restore it.  Simply upload the relevant files, and you'll have a clean installation.  You don't need to run the installation again, and it won't affect any of your current posts.

If you've already tried to restore the backup, and gotten errors, it's possible that could have caused problems, however.  What errors are you getting?

Could you get on AIM, it would be a lot easier.

I'm afraid not.  Doing that will most likely result in about twelve people who all feel they need my urgent and uninterupted attention, including you.

Alright, well unfortunately I already re-installed the forum. After attempting to restore the database, it gives me this error: Attempt to load URL: "/3rdparty/phpMyAdmin/read_dump.php" failed.

[Unknown]

It's probably timing out.  How large is the database dump?

You can try using the attached tool.

It's about 23 MB uncompressed...

Um.. that tool grabs the database from the server. I have the backup on my computer...
