The Show Permissions option doesn' t work

I am finishing the setup for my forum and I discovered that the "Show permissions" option in the profile' s panel gives the error message:

This page cannot be displayed

and in the address bar
http://www..../index.php?action=profile;u=1;sa=showPermissions

Yes, I have checked this. The forum works OK, I have added themes, tried logos, playing with possibilities now.
I run a Yahoo! Group since May 2001 and I want to change.

By the way MSIE shows the error mentioned, Mozilla just stays where it was (no action).

I have to mention that I liked SMF. I don' t know about security yet but I like the freedom of PHP and the overall build of SMF.

I'm not sure why it wouldn't be working for you, but it sounds like the server isn't even responding for some reason.  Can you give the full URL?

The server is Bravenet, http://www.bravenet.com.

I will change it to English. It is not  a codepage problem neither a themes problem.

As about the server I have the problem of automatic mods although it works OK with manual installation. The same with themes. I think it is a "safe mode" server problem.

Well, when I try it:

It doesn't crash; this is good news, because it means your server isn't filtering out the URL.  However, I'm not sure why it's not loading for you.

Have you tried it with Opera?

No, I must reinstall Opera to see.
MSIE 6 shows "The page cannot be displayed"
Mozilla 1,7 just hangs.

The above happen when I am logged as an administator and have the rights. I just tried the straight link

after logging out, as a guest and logged as a simle member. Then the appropriate error messages of SMF are shown OK.

I discovered that I had Opera 6.05 installed so I tried it.

Same as with Mozilla. No error message, it just doesn' t respond

Is there anything else not working, or is this the only thing?

Have you checked your site's error log (if you have cPanel, etc.)?  Not the forum, I mean Apache's error log.

As I mentioned above there is a problem with mods and themes installation from an external file, however this is a problem others have too. I tried the solution you proposed in http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=28393.0 but it doesn't work and you write

I have not experience  so far with network servers and PHP, however I learn. The server seems to be in safe mode as I tried some simple PHP commands and I am getting accustomed to the new for me syntax.

The command <?php phpinfo(); ?> doesn't output anything so the server must be in safe mode.

I had also to disable temporary tables for the search to work.

Well SMF has many options and I can't  say I tried them all but tried many of them. There might be a problem with new group permissions but I have to check it again. I made my basic forum structure, installed themes and Greek language, installed logos, tried mail notifications and they seem to be good. I like SMF, a friend of mine wants to announce the forum, but I must try enough things before. Some minor disfunctions are related with specific theme use, so I don't consider them a general problem.

The forum can be used without the "show permissions" option, however it might be a sign of server incompatibility that may cause other problems in the future.

You should email them and ask them the following:

1. Can they give you permission to use temporary tables?
2. Why doesn't phpinfo work?

I would add the the .htaccess file inclusion would be beneficial as far as security is concerned. I also assume that .css, .xml, .shtml, .xhtml, .xslt files are supported.

Unfortunately the features you've described are not available due to security concerns.

We can add mime-types by request and are currently looking into offering .htaccess support.

Funny they say that.

1. Temporary tables increase performance and as long as they are using a recent (newer than like two years old) version of MySQL fairly bug-free.
2. The phpinfo() function is informative and could only lead to security problems if php.ini was misused.
3. PHP suExec is a security feature, and could only increase security.
