Need some help changing to 2.0 Beta 4...

Two issues really:

1)  In trying to go from 2.0 Beta 3 to Beta 4, I"m getting this error as I try to upload the package:

The package you tried to upload either is not a valid package or has become corrupted.  I've tried multiple times in the last 15 minutes with clean downloads.

2)  I have Beta 3 up and running on a fresh database, minus my mods.  Is it possible to switch over to the database I'm currently using for 1.1.4?

You do not upgrade with a upgrade package via the package manager.

You ftp the files and then point your browser to the upgrade script. Here is some more info on this :)

Upgrade SMF
PM at your own risk, some I answer, if they are interesting, some I ignore.

Tyrsson

To answer your 2nd question.

The table structure is different between the 1.x and the 2.x versions so no you can not (that I know of) use a 1.x db for a 2.x version.

Antechinus

That's correct. The upgrade script modifies the database to make it compatible with SMF 2.

So if I have many mods, will I be able to somewhat flawlessly move to from 1.1.4 to 2.0 Beta 4?  I realize not all mods apply, some aren't necessary.

My main concern is the Paid Subscriptions.  I need for those transfer smoothly.

You can in fact use a 1.1.x database on a 2.0 installation, but it may not be easy. I managed to get my 1.1.5 installation (with 75000 posts and mods) converted to 2.0 beta 4, using the 2.0 upgrade package.

I've never used that mod so I can't comment. However paid subscriptions are an integral feature of SMF 2 anyway. You may have to set them up again but the function is certainly available.

What I am going to do when I move to RC1 is take the entire site back to vanilla 1.1.7. All custom files will be overwritten or deleted. I do not like fixing debacles and am not taking chances.

Jim R

That's really my main concern is if those accounts in Paid Subscriptions will be transferred over easily.

Is this issue resolved now?

Unless this mod is available for SMF 2.0 also, they probably will not be transferable automatically. SMF 2.0 has this feature built-in, so my guess is that the paid subscriptions mod will most likely not be updated.

Jim R

I guess it definitely isn't resolved then.  I realize there won't be a mod in 2.0 for Paid Subscriptions.  It's already part of the core product now.  But that begs the question of will those users who already have paid subscriptions be transferred smoothly into 2.0.

I don't want to have to tell all my users who have paid they have to re-up, even if it only means they re-supply a payment method.

Brettflan

The data storage may well be similar between the Paid Subscriptions mod and the built in handling in SMF 2.0. The database info for the Redirect Boards mod for 1.1.x only needed a column or two to be renamed to switch them over to the built in functionality in SMF 2.0.

...After a quick check, it appears the upgrade script for 2.0 will find and convert over the data from the Paid Subscriptions mod for you. The paid subscription database tables are included in the database conversion process.
Even if that doesn't work for some reason, you should still be able to transfer over the data with just a little work. All of the same tables are there along with a couple of extras (which is fine), just with slightly different names and slightly different dimensions for the rows.

Jim R, did you manage to do a upgrade to a test forum to confirm if the paid subscriptions data are migrated over to SMF 2.0?

Jim R

How would I migrate over to a test forum?

I did a clean install of 2.0 to play with it a little.  That said the Mod ssi_boardNews Multi board hasn't been converted over, so I can't really move to 2.0.  I use that Mod a great deal.

You can import your database backup to a new blank database. Then run an upgrade to SMF 2.0 beta 4 (or even RC1) on a test forum (just install one from scratch). That will be your test environment now. You can try out your mods to see what works and what doesn't.
