Prevent threads from appearing in Most Recent Topics list?

Hello, is there a way to somehow tag forum threads so that they are excluded from the Unread Topics list?

For example say you're a Dog and a Cat thread you've abandoned keeps popping up in your Unread list and you'd like to prevent it from happening.

^^^ Thanks much!!  I'll keep this handy for when the board I'm working with upgrades, for now though it's running SMF 1.1.7 and this mod isn't compatible.
