Problem updating to 2.0 b4p

Tried updating my 1.1.7 forum to 2.0 b4p which ended up being stuck in the "Adding log pruning." stage. I got the 'no response for 30 seconds' message, waited, retried multiple times, to no avail. I had to restore the database, reinstall 1.1.7 and run repair_settings (plus a few additions of tables that had somehow not been backed up) to get the forum back.

I had tried the same thing with an earlier beta and had the same problem. Now this is a 4 year old forum that had been converted into some 1.0 beta and has been continually upgraded since, so I assume some cruft has found its way in my database.

Additionally, I am one of the people who needs the "ALTER TABLE smf_smileys ORDER BY code DESC;" hack to get 1.1.7 to setup, so could there be a related problem blocking the upgrade to 2.0?

My 1.1.7 install had no mods or themes, intentionally kept pure for the upgrade.

Any ideas?

It is possible that the MySQL is simply timing out.

Do you have SSH access to the server?

I have never used SSH. Is there a simple way to find this out?

al3x, is this issue resolved now?

You can try using a fresh 1.1.7 install and try upgrading that to see if the same problem occurs. If so, MySQL may be timing out as H pointed out.

Did you clear all the errors in your forum error log? What options do you have checked during the upgrade process?

This is just to say that everything worked fine updating from 1.1.8 to 2.0 rc1

Thank you both for your time and the SMF team for its mad skillz :)
