I think I saw an smf mod that creates an admin and global mod area. I did create such an area manually but Ive managed to breach security twice and allow normal members into the are. Maybe this mod will be my answer.

I cant find it in a search, can anyone remember what the mod is called ??

It creates a board that only admin and global moderators can access. Here you can discuss the running of the site.

No mod needed for this. It's a simple setup. Just go to Admin > Boards and click on Modify link for the board you want to be private. Then look in the access groups area and uncheck everyone except for the Administrators and Global Moderators.

Thanks Grey Knight. Can you confirm that this is 1000 % water tight and can not be over ridden by any individual membersgroup permissions. I managed to screw it up before and show my staff board to one membersgroup. Dont know how I managed it but I did.

This is not 100% bullet proof. I just set up the area, as directed and instantly have a lot of PM's from people saying they can read the board.

Im baffled again by smf settings.

Bump,

Can anyone help me sort out why my staff area is breached.

The board is only open admin and global mods.

Without knowing exactly what has been done and without even a link to the site, it's near impossible to know.

Unless you have granted members admin permissions, removing the ability to access the board should keep it hidden from other groups' view.

However, some modifications might complicate this. I can think of one modification that allows people to see boards they don't have access to, but they still can't enter the board. Maybe you have this and it is interfering?

I don't see the topic, I get a login screen, so that is a good sign. It means guests at least can't see things.

If you are still seeing issues, PM me with a normal user account so I can confirm.

I believe it did, but I've been swamped with work (currently my second day back after being out most of a week). If I get time today, I'll look, if not I'll try to fit it in tonight. However, my grandmother is coming home from the hospital today and I might not be able to.

No worries mate, no rush. Im just pleased your helping.

Is this issue resolved now? I can't access that topic either as a guest.

It all depends on how you have it set up. If you have members in a primary membergroup and also a secondary/additional membergroup, the permissions will be off as well. So if you restrict access to a special board for the primary group that a member is in but allow access for that additional/seconary membergroup, it will allow them access.

glennk

Hi there.

I might have solved it. I will get back to you soon.

JimM

glennk - did you get this solved.  I have this exact set-up on my forum and it works perfectly.  If this is solved, feel free to mark it as solved by clicking the Mark Topic Solved link at the bottom of the page under the linktree.
