Alright I have prettyurl and vb meta tags installed. However I have a problem, every page on my site has the robot tag "noindex"

http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=148.0
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=148.0#reply675645645

both show up as noindex, I checked the index file and the [no_context] robot tag is there, so how can i fix this. I am using a custom theme........any help?

The variable is CONDITIONAL, and SMF only sets it for duplicate content pages.

It could be related to pretty urls.

What is the link to your forum?

I know it is suppose to be conditional but I don't think it is on my site, every page is showing up like this.

Test account for you to get in and view the boards:

u: *****
p: ******

*I am using smf 2.0 beta 4, I also have restricted boards mod on where users much login to view the boards.

Indeed you are correct.

If you haven't altered the noindex statement in the template then I believe this is related to PrettyUrls.

By default only smf type of urls are indexable.
Unless pretty urls alters the indexing functionality, then all prettyurls links will result in noindexed page.
You should contact the author via the mods support topic.

Note, since your forum topics cannot be viewed by guests anyway, even with pages indexable, search enginescannot read/view them anyway. So they won't be indexed.

I am going to take away the restricted board mod and see if it changes anything. However should I just remove the conditional "noindex" code altogether if it is still there?

karlbenson

SMF checks the url to see if its a valid type.
Basically pretty urls are being determined as invalid.

You don't want to remove the index thing entirely as you would get marked down for duplicate content in search engines.
Like i said above, you need to contact the author of the pretty urls mod, and get them to write a fix so that prettyurl links that you want valid are indexed, and those that you don't are not.

See the mods page on the mod site, and click support topic.

Where is the list of valid URLs stored?

karlbenson

There isn't a list of valid ones that is easily amendable.
smf checks that the url has certain parameters.  Extra ones make it no indexed.

I don't understand how prettyurls works enough to know how their linking works.
(since i've never used nor needed it for seo)
