I'm trying to install 2.0, and I have gotten this error:

Warning: main(/home/official/public_html/test/Settings.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/official/public_html/test/index.php on line 52

Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/official/public_html/test/Settings.php' (include_path='.:/usr/php4/lib/php:/usr/local/php4/lib/php') in /home/official/public_html/test/index.php on line 52

I can't find a settings.php file anywhere. I don't know what I'm supposed to do to fix this. >.<

You should have the Settings.php file in the root of your SMF installation.

Copy the file from the SMF package that you had downloaded or download the one I attached with this post (for SMF 2.0 RC1)
You could also download a new SMF package from here:
http://download.simplemachines.org/

Thank you for the file. I have added that through FTP, but now when I attempt to go the the forum URL, I only get:

Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

I'm sorry for asking quite possibly the silliest questions, but I'm just trying to learn how things work. I'm not sure given the situation what it is that I need to do in order to remedy this.

Where I'm trying to put this 2.0 forum is on a subdomain of my main forum.

Your first error was caused by the file being missing. Now that you have it in place you will need to run the installation script again.

The reason your  new forum cannot connect to the database is because you haven't installed it yet.
