Board and Categories Out of Order

Hello

I am using SMF 2.0 RC1, and the board index is not reflecting the ordering of the boards OR categories as set in the Admin Center.  Initially everything was fine, but when I added a new board, it stayed at the bottom of the category, even I put it first in the "Manage Boards and Categories" list, and it accurately showed up as first on that list.  (I cleared the cache, logged off and logged back on ... the board was still at the bottom of the list on the Board Index and top of the list in the Admin Center.)

I tried deleting all the boards in that category and putting them back in in the right order. (New forum, so no posts yet.)  That worked, BUT now the whole category has dropped to the bottom of the Board Index, when it is supposed to be first -- and again is accurately showing up as first in the Admin Center.

Help please!!!!

Thanks,
Hilary

I am trying and trying every permutation of this and no matter what now, the new boards and categories stay at the bottom on the board index, no matter where I put them on the administrative center.  Is no one else having this problem? I feel that it makes the forum unusable -- all my "general information" boards - FAQ, Introduce Yourself, News & Announcements etc. are way down at the bottom of the board!!!!

When you say "every permutation", what exactly are you doing?

I put in test categories, test boards, moved them up to the top of the page and category in the admin center ... they always look fine there but on the index page they are always at the bottom.

(I will say that I am not clear on how to use the arrows in the "move" link under Modify Boards ... I am ordering them using the "Modify" link and before/after menu, but they are all showing up correctly in the admin center and not on the index.)

No reordering that I am doing is showing up, except in the admin center.  (It did work originally, when I first created the categories and boards two days ago ... I did some reordering then that worked.)  FYI, I do not have any mods installed.  The problem is the same in the default theme or the Headline theme I am using.

Thanks for your help! I am holding off opening this forum because I do not want people to post if I am going to have to dump the whole thing.

I don't have time to do it this morning (it being morning in my part of the world) but if you can pm me admin login I'll take a look tonight. Probably better that way than trying to play twenty questions.

Thanks so much; I will do that.  I have managed to get the categories in the order I want them by deleting all of them and putting them back in the right order, but I am still unable to modify them via the Admin Center, and that workaround won't be an option once people start posting!

best,
Hilary

Try moving one or two around and then back.  Then see if it resets.

I've only seen this a few times, and I never knew the issue, but setting them again and saving helped in those situations.  But that was a 1.1 board.

When did it start happening?  Did the ordering of the boards ever work on initial setup of the boards?  Do get the same results with the default CORE theme?  What mods installed?

Happened to me when I last changed servers. After importing to the new server, and upgrading the forum, the index page was messed up. All I had to do, is take one category - move it up or down a bit, save the new order - and move it back again. After that all was like it should be :) (That was a 1.1. board as well )

The reason SMF doesn't promote that is because the solution should be visible to everyone. It's not possible for SMF support staff to provide one on one support no matter how willing they are to share passwords to their site.
